MORE EVERYTHING CROTON'S FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC.

Well it took some work to salvage what we could from this 1937 edition of Look Magazine, but we thought the image of Shirley temple having tea with Santa Claus was too good to pass up.

A pity we couldn't get the rest of the cover. We just couldn't get rid of the black and red crayon drawings!

OLD CROTON: THE LATE MARION COSTELLO...& WILDFLOWERS

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The late Marion Costello was generous in so many ways; a lover of the theatre, she provided Everything Croton with many copies of her “vintage” Playbills for scanning--and sharing. Stretching from the early 60's to the mid 1980's, we are constantly updating the flickr set for your enjoyment (click here).

But Marion was also an avid National Geographic reader—and she was always passing on items to be scanned and shared with others here at EverythingCroton—in particular, this set of American Wildflower botanical illustrations from the 1915 edition of the Geographic.

It took us weeks to find the envelope of carefully sliced pages, but we finally located it last night. Click on the photo, then click here to see the rest.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL FIND AT THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY, #8: THE AMERICAN SOLDIER 1918-1965

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EverythingCroton.

PART EIGHT - YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL FIND AT THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY:  "THE AMERICAN SOLDIER 1918-1965", a circa 1960's collection of full-color reproductions of paintings from the Office of the Chief of Military History.

H. Charles McBarron, dean of American military artists was commissioned to create the series depicting American fighting men at various periods in our country's history. No effort had been spared to ensure that uniforms, arms, and equipment were portrayed with accuracy.

Enjoy Part One of the Scans below, starting with WWI, 1918 and ending with 1965. Please remember that these paintings are a product of the times. As always, many thanks to the Croton Historical Society. Click on the photos.

--We’re often amazed when we hear people say they have no room for a Christmas tree; artificial options abound from “slender” trees, to tabletop, etc. Joy found this one, and while it isn’t cheap, it’s “flat back” allows her to use it on a narrow console table in her living room, and still have room for her putz houses: http://www.shelleybhomeandholiday.com/raz-4-ft-flat-prelit-christmas-tre4.html

Here are some pix of it decorated: http://shelleybdecorandmore.blogspot.com/2010/10/new-flat-prelit-christmas-trees.html#links

We’re sure there are other similar-type trees available in different price points.

CROTON HARDWARE

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EverythingCroton.

Some years ago we featured a brief blurb on Croton Hardware—a recent minor leak however, reminded us how lucky we are to have it in town; let it suffice to say that we had everything we needed—including practical advice—to fix the problem ourselves within the hour.

So if you’re tired of the big box stores—and the gas it takes to get there—give this family-owned business a try first.

CROTON HARDWARE, 25 S. Riverside Avenue, 271-3801

APRIL 2014 UPDATE: CLOSED.

And from Ed Berg: Today we forgo Train Time to bring you a special Olympic Toy; Wow, do we have a treat for you paper village aficionados - an Olympic Village from 1932! First of all, I cannot imagine how rare these must be. Since starting on my toy collecting path about twenty years ago I've never come across any more of these buildings. I have six buildings and haven't a clue if there are any more in the series as, quite frankly, the Internet doesn't seem to have any info on them either. http://www.toyconnect.blogspot.com/2012/08/1932-helms-bakery-olympic-village-model.html
