NURSING HOME SCANDAL UPDATE: IT JUST GETS WORSE AND WORSE; 3 ARTICLES

Article #1 -A  deep dive into New York AG Letitia James’ COVID report reveals disturbing truths about the celebrity governor’s pandemic deception.

For much of the past year, the mainstream media and Democrats have largely blamed former president Donald Trump and his administration for most of America’s COVID-19 deaths. Trump did indeed fail in certain aspects of coordination, messaging, and inserting politics into the parts of the process where it didn’t belong. He deserves credit, however, for Operation Warp Speed, the initiative that (ultimately successfully) fostered the development of coronavirus vaccines, one of the most successful public-private ventures in modern history. But Trump’s overbearing personality tended to absorb all the attention, leaving little room for real debate on the successes and failures of other politicians, except when the media found time to criticize Republican governors. But serious criticism of Democrats in this period was rare.

Until now. Read more at https://www.nationalreview.com/2021/02/andrew-cuomo-was-a-villain-all-along/?utm_source=recirc-desktop&utm_medium=homepage&utm_campaign=river&utm_content=featured-content-trending&utm_term=first

FOR THOSE OF US WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY LIVING IN/WORKING IN/NYC...AND THE SCHOOL SYSTEM TOO, BLM ETC., LESSONS INSPIRED BY A COP-KILLER, VIDEO DARING DAYTIME ROBBERY

FRONT COVER -Did anyone at the city Department of Education think once, let alone twice, about allowing young students to be taught lessons from a curriculum drawn up by Black Lives Matter radicals? One that idealizes a cold-blooded cop-killer?

As The Post’s Selim Algar and Lee Brown report, city public schools are joining in a Black Lives Matter at School “week of action.”  The group’s Web site — which notes it is “committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement,” among other beliefs that we’re pretty sure most African Americans don’t share — centers on an inspirational quote from no less than Joanne Chesimard, a k a Assata Shakur, a Black Liberation Army terrorist convicted of the 1973 execution-style murder of a New Jersey state trooper, Werner Foerster.

In 1979, she escaped prison and fled to Cuba, where’s she’s believed to remain. In 2013, the Obama administration put her on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list, with a $1 million award for assisting in her capture. MORE ON THE NURSING HOME SCANDAL PLUS.....TOP DEM WANTS RECONSIDERATION OF GOV'S COVID-19 POWERS IN LIGHT OF SCANDAL & DAMNING REPORT

A top New York Democrat wants state lawmakers to reconsider Gov. Cuomo’s COVID-19 powers in light of the state attorney general’s report that found the state undercounted nursing home coronavirus deaths.

State Sen. Liz Krueger, chair of the state Senate Finance Committee, also said Tuesday night that the state legislature should conduct oversight hearings following the damning report that was released last week......“Unfortunately, based on discoveries from the last few days regarding the intentional underreporting of deaths of nursing home residents throughout the state and the mass exodus of the state’s public health experts from their jobs, I believe the legislature should conduct oversight hearings and re-evaluate the continued use of such broad emergency powers by the Executive,” the lawmaker said. FOR THOSE OF US FOLLOWING THE NURSING HOME SCANDAL; CUOMO OFFICIALS IN MASS EXODUS AND MORE, THE LATEST

ITEM #1 - At least nine top Cuomo administration health officials have resigned, retired or been reassigned amid the coronavirus crisis that’s devastated New York — while embattled Health Commissioner Howard Zucker has kept his job.

The flood of departures was reported Monday by the New York Times, which tied them to dissatisfaction with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the coronavirus crisis and cited sources who complained that pandemic policy is set entirely by Cuomo and a close circle of aides rather than health experts.

“When I say ‘experts’ in air quotes, it sounds like I’m saying I don’t really trust the experts,” Cuomo acknowledged in a stunningly blunt answer to a reporter’s question Friday. “Because I don’t. Because I don’t.” MORE AT https://nypost.com/2021/02/01/amid-covid-nursing-home-uproar-a-mass-exodus-of-cuomo-officials/

AND NOW AN ENCORE---PART TWO--MORE PHOTOS--THE 2020 CHRISTMAS VILLAGE: A STAREK AND OEHMEN COLLABORATION

Click on the photos below for PART 2 of  the 2020  Village collaboration of Linda Starek and Pete Oehmen.  This display contains what are known as "composition" putz houses....more than cardboard, actually plaster-of-paris reinforced with fiber that was used for a short time in the 1930's as inexpensive train layout accessories.  They do have cellophane windows and doors and a hole in the back for a light.  Also included are smokers.  Made of the same material with an open back for an incense cone and a hole at the  top for smoke to escape.  A late 40's American Flyer train goes go around the village on the tracks.

The idea for the use of these composition houses in this year's village was Oehmen's.  The execution, except for the tunnel, was Starek's. NOTE: ALL PHOTOS ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

PART 11, AT THE REQUEST OF OUR LOCAL AUTHORS & JOURNALISTS: FORMER NY TIMES BARI WEISS, WOKE CULTURE, FIGHTING BACK, THE MUZZLING OF AMERICA ETC.

One of our most popular series here at Everything Croton.....and now....FIRST UP, from the great Bari Weiss...

I realize the faddish thing to say these days is that we live in the worst, most broken and backward country in the world and maybe in the history of civilization. It’s utter nonsense.

I have a few basic litmus tests in my own life: Can I wear a tank top in public? Can I walk down the street holding the hand of my partner, a (beautiful) woman, in many places in America without getting a second glance? Can I wear a Jewish star without fear?

I do not take those things for granted. I know very well that in many other places, the answers would be different, and my life wouldn’t be possible at all.

America is imperfect. (Does it even need to be said?) There is bigotry toward blacks and gays and Jews and immigrants; there is intense polarization; political violence is becoming more regular; elected representatives believe conspiracy theories. All true here as in many other countries being torn apart by the dislocations of the 21st century.

But there is no gulag in America. There are no laws permitting honor killings. There is no formal social credit system of the kind that exists right now in China. By any measure, we have achieved incredible progress and enjoy extraordinary freedoms. And yet people aren’t acting that way. They are acting, increasingly, like subjects in a totalitarian country.

These people write to me daily. They admit to regularly censoring themselves at work and with friends; succumbing to social pressure to tweet the right hashtag; to parroting slogans they do not believe to protect their livelihoods, like the greengrocer in Václav Havel’s famous essay “The Power of the Powerless.”

These people aren’t crazy. They are scared for good reason. Read the very lengthy article at https://nypost.com/2021/01/31/10-ways-to-fight-back-against-woke-culture

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: HOWARD DA SILVA, GLORIA SWANSON, VERA NEUMANN & CLIFFORD HARMON

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

SOME MORE RECENTLY UNEARTHED BITS & PIECES ABOUT CROTON NOTABLES: HOWARD DA SILVA, GLORIA SWANSON, VERA NEUMANN-, AND CLIFFORD B. HARMON----click on the photos and links.

First up, Croton's Howard Da Silva appeared in 26 episodes of CBS Radio Mystery Theater. How fitting that one of the elves unearthed this one:

A Very Private Miracle--"A very moving story about a cranky old man and a little girl trying to persuade him to play Santa Claus."

Hear it at  https://www.cbsrmt.com/episode/191-a-very-private-miracle.html

For more about Howard Da Silva and his Croton connection, click here

Next up, a 1930 blurb about Croton's Gloria Swanson--and her earlier days in Keystone comedies--where she got her start.

This one is Teddy at the Throttle, a 1917 American silent comedy short film starring Bobby Vernon, Gloria Swanson, and her first husband, Wallace Beery. Teddy was one of the first dog actors, a great dane who acted in over 60 of Paramount’s Mack Sennett comedies!!!!!

He was also known as Keystone Teddy.

And here's Gloria Swanson decorating her Christmas tree, 1921, for her infant daughter.  We believe this is an interior shot from her Croton home.

But you can see definite identified exterior shots of her Croton home here, 1924, Mt. Airy Road.

As many of you know, Vera Neumann was one of Croton's most famous residents.  A prolific artist, innovator and textile designer still popular today.

For those of you who have always wondered how to date your vintage Vera textiles, Retro Renovation has the answer! Click here

And finally from The Newberry Herald and News: a blurb about Clifford Harmon, famed early aviation pioneer and suburban land developer---for whom the Harmon section of the village (and its train station) is forever remembered.

Here's a 1910 article detailing an aviation mishap---TREES SAVED FLYER'S LIFE
