2017 MARCH DAYS AT THE CROTON ESTUARY

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

If you have not yet visited the Croton Estuary at the parking lot in the winter, dress warmly---recent cold days have finally produced ice on the shallow waters, and its reflective qualities are almost magical. Click on the photos below (all rights reserved) to see what your editor is talking about. The color blue becomes very intense. Your visit may also be rewarded when you spot the occasional eagle, merganser duck, and pintail.

REMEMBERING HUGO IODICE

On the one year anniversary (yesterday) of his death...recapping those old feelings: I first met Hugo ten plus years ago in Croton's Upper Village over an Italian ice "imported" from The Bronx. His keen insights into Croton's political scene--and on the art of being "Italian" for lack of another way to put it--were often potmarked with outrageously funny commentary worthy of a television special. He was generous and kind and relished his role as a father to his two sons. He also had a keen sense of community responsibility. An all around good guy, fondly remembered...

REMEMBERING NELSON EDDY

Remembering Nelson (Ackerman) Eddy who died this date in 1967...

An American singer and actor who appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as in opera and on the concert stage, radio, television, and in nightclubs.

A classically trained baritone, he is best remembered for the eight films in which he costarred with soprano Jeanette MacDonald. He was one of the first "crossover" stars, a superstar appealing both to shrieking bobby soxers and opera purists, and in his heyday, he was the highest paid singer in the world.
