1962 HOMEMAKER CONTEST, A REQUEST FROM THE MAILBOX

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

At Everything Croton, we try to answer requests for info whenever possible. This one, however, took us quite a long time to find---and one of the Elfs here only stumbled upon any reference to it purely by accident.

Still, it must have been quite the local event back then as we recently had another inquiry about it again,,,,

IN A NUT SHELL, a reader remembers that her mother---and the other local village Moms--entering a "Homemaker" contest sponsored in part by the local Grand Union. Her mother in fact won a set of "fancy glasses" still used for the Christmas and Easter table but could recall few of the other details. She wondered if there was anything "out there"--and believes the year was 1963.

Well there was this--1962 however---FROM THE PATENT TRADER--and the Grand Union is mentioned---as well as a prize of "glassware"...Click on the ad below---sliced into two for easier reading.
