Obituary for Samuel F. Colombo

Samuel F. Colombo, a lifelong resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born on January 17, 1944, in Ossining, NY, Samuel was the son of the late Frank Colombo and Frances Colombo (née Calcutti). Sam was retired from the Town of Cortlandt Water Department.

Sam was deeply engaged in his community. He was a member of the Croton Caring Committee and the Croton Seniors. He was especially passionate about the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger, where he volunteered, participated in the run, and helped raise crucial funds to combat food insecurity. His devotion to the cause was heartfelt and unwavering. Sam also had a deep love of fishing, finding peace and joy by the water with a rod in hand—an activity he cherished throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Karen Colombo. Samuel is survived by his loving son, Chris Colombo (Carrie Howe); his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Colombo and Christopher Colombo, Jr.; and his adored great-grandchildren, Jaida and Amina. He also leaves behind his brother Frank Colombo, sisters Anne O’Brien and Charlene Carlson, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Holy Name of Mary Church, 110 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the same location. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, also in Croton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Samuel’s memory may be made to the Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger, a cause that meant so much to him.
