----Statue Of Jesus Decapitated During Open Prayer In El Paso Cathedral...An almost 90-year-old religious statue was destroyed in an El Paso, Texas cathedral on Tuesday, making it one of approximately 200 historical and religious statues vandalized over the last six months. “I am in shock and we at the Cathedral are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation,” said the rector of St. Patrick Cathedral, Fr. Fr. Rutler - noted author and speaker, convert to Catholicism - past weekend email - In our city accustomed to protest demonstrations of all sorts, a recent one was particularly dismaying and even frightening. The anarchistic chants were bad enough, but the frightfulness was in the glazed eyes of the expressionless marchers, like the “pod people” in the 1956 cult film “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” Carrying signs supplied for them, they chanted refrains called out by a leader as they moved through one of our pricier neighborhoods. As a boy, the black-and-white film was scary, though in later years it was amusing to watch again, but now it has taken on an unsettling reality in the living color of live people. John Cartafalsa, 91, was relieved to get home to the Upper West Side after spending five months of the pandemic stranded in Florida.
But as he entered his apartment lobby, his eyes were drawn to a disturbing sight. Tucked at the feet of a neighbor waiting for the elevator was Cartafalsa’s precious Christopher Columbus statue, a gift from a Sicilian-born relative to honor his law school graduation in 1957.
For 30 years the 15-inch bronze has held pride of place in an alcove in the lobby of Cartafalsa’s Riverside Drive co-op.
There it remained, unmolested, until 5:55 pm June 29 when, in a stroke of fateful timing, Cartafalsa came across his 13th floor neighbor, Mount Sinai doctor Sean Morrison, trying to swipe it.
“That’s mine!” said a distressed Cartafalsa, shuffling forward on his walker. What was said next is in dispute, but the conversation ended when another neighbor told Cartafalsa she would restore his statue to its niche. However, Morrison didn’t let go of his obsession.
At 7:23 the next morning, CCTV footage shows the palliative care specialist, hospital ID slung around his neck, walking through the lobby, into the alcove, where he tucks the statue under his arm, and walks briskly out onto the street. AND FROM JUNE:
The
following is for those of us with friends and family in Seattle--but it
also contains the sad news that the historic and very beautiful St.
John's Episcopal Church in Washington DC was vandalized in an attempt to
establish a BLACK HOUSE AUTONOMOUS ZONE. It was my privilege to attend
a service there back in 1988. The article is from The Christian
Post, but the story has been covered in all the major media as
well--this post is closed to all comments.
Historic St. John's Church vandalized; Seattle mayor says CHOP to be shut down 'at night'
The historic St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., was
vandalized Monday night as protesters attempted to set up a "Black House
Autonomous Zone" while a similar area in Seattle is set to be gradually
dismantled. Amid ongoing demonstrations around the country that
have involved the desecration of monuments and the toppling of statues
of historical figures in major cities, the pillars of St. John's Church
were spray-painted by protesters to display the letters "BHAZ," video
footage shows. MORE AT https://www.christianpost.com/news/historic-st-johns-episcopal-church-dc-vandalized-seattle-mayor-chop-shut-down-at-night.html
