3 ITEMS FROM THE MAILBOX

--A reader remembers that the family only ate out only for important occasions---like birthdays, Mother's Day---and "around Christmas-time". Although she lived in Croton for just a few years, there were family gatherings at a place on Grand Street owned by someone named "Grace or Gracie....can you help?"

Answer: Indeed, we can. It could only be the Cobblestone Inn (owned by Grace Tarplin) a.k.a. The Pewter Horn a.k.a. The Croton Steak House. Read more at EverythingCroton: MORE CROTON MEMORIES: THE CROTON STEAK HOUSE & MORE

--A reader asks: "You had an article about a model train set-up in Croton down by the landfill and the train station....but I can't find it"

Answer: You can only mean Robert Carlo's amazing creation; go to EverythingCroton: THE CROTON CHRONICLE--DREAMING OF TRAINS: IN A CONNECTICUT BASEMENT, ROBERT CARLO HAS RECREATED HIS CHILDHOOD VISITS TO CROTON AND ITS CELEBRATED STATION AND RAIL YARD

--BY SPECIAL REQUEST, ONE MORE TIME------THESE "CROTON" BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING--Another reader was reminiscing about her first pair of white knee-high boots--bought right here in Croton--"back in the 70's"--but couldn't recall the name of the store.
"I saved for over six weeks to buy them and thought they were the coolest. They were beautiful, "imported from Italy" and turned out to be so painful, I wore them only twice. My first lesson in not everything that glitters is gold. Would love to see something about the store if you have it."

Your editor's response: Could it have been THE VILLAGE BOOTERY---or the JO-CRISS BOOTERY----click here for that and other 1970's Croton businesses.
