Good Morning and Happy New Year!
Rob and Monica are slowly getting caught up with the posts over at their blog, but your editor wanted to especially point out the most recent one--which included a visit to Hick's Nursery out on Long Island--and their amazing Christmas Display--(click on the photo)--it also includes a really neat Christmas "village".
Hick's is one of those old-fashioned nurseries you may have visited as a child during the holidays--when nurseries stocked up on lots of holiday goodness in the winter months before closing until spring...(How many of you remember how much fun the old Ossining Arcadian Nursery was to visit at Christmas back in the mid-90's. No petting zoo or reindeer but wall after wall of ornaments, just about anything that sparkled, and an adorable ceramic village with cable cars lit up 24/7!)
Well, Hick's Nursery is all that and then some.

We loved Arcadian. A bygone era. We used to take the kids.
ReplyDeleteRemember the old Crompond Country store in Yorktown. We always went there for their after Christmas sale. Got some of our most treasured ornaments from them for decades.
ReplyDeleteWe always added to our Fontanini creche from them. Now we have to do everything online and there is nothing like seeing a piece up close and personal, not to mention the sometimes shipping rates. Places like this still do exist. It seems you just have to travel further and further to find them. I'm waiting for photos from a nursery in Mamaroneck that supposedly does it up along the lines of Hick's.
DeleteHicks really is an amazing place at Christmas and they still remember how to do Christmas! I would love to see pictures from the nurseries in your neck of the woods! (Rob)
