And now an item from the vintage Christmas novelty department:
An old toy/”musical novelty” with a Christmas theme: ‘CHRISTMAS EVE CAPERS’—made by Glolite--wind it up, the children “sneak” down the stairs while Santa Claus descends from the chimney; once “spotted”, Santa scoots back up the chimney—ditto for the kids—to repeat the process over and over again all powered by the music box mechanism. See the 1949 ad below.

Followed by an incredible
restoration by our friend CF; click on the photos below--in her case, the Santa and children were missing—so
she made copies. We were also both missing the deer head over the fireplace—she
made one for hers!

Amazunrestoration. I saw one of these in mint condition go for over $300 on Ebay a few months back.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had the most fun painting the children and santa...it really takes you back to a fantastical nostalgic time. I was worried the deer would not look like a deer but in the end I surprised myself :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much to the wonderful people who helped me find the display with kiddies and santa to be able to re-create them :) you guys are the BEST
