We've been fascinated with "the ruins above the Duck Pond" for a very long time. Once owned by Margaret Mayo, an American actress, playwright, and screenwriter, they are all that's left of a large residence destroyed by fire. According to the Croton Historical Society, the site was also home for about a year to the Indian mystic Mehar Baba through an arrangement with Mayo and the Schloss family. The site is still privately held, and impressive in any season. Click on the photo. More to come.

When we were growing up, we called it Croton's "Stonehedge".
ReplyDeleteI think she built it around the 1900's or so for some visiting Indian swami.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, she did. BTW, this is a fantastic photo. Love it at this blog.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting that Meher Baba lived in the house. Per this website https://www.meherbabatravels.com/location-gallery/usa/harmon-on-hudson-ny-usa/ he lived at 180 Old Albany Post Road.
