FUNGUS AT THE MERWIN OAK

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

We were all quite alarmed when we spotted this type of wood rot fungus quickly overtaking a portion of Croton's Merwin Oak at its base--click on the photo--and made some inquiries. Artie Neff, on hand for the Fun Fall Day, told us that it had recently been treated professionally. We'll keep you posted.

  1. Thank you for following up on this. I noticed it a few days ago and meant to call the village but it completely slipped my mind. Nice to know they got to it. What surprised me most was how FAST it happened. Linda

  2. This stuff is insidious. I had something similar attack a small Japanese maple while we were visiting family, when we got back the tree was ready to tip over. Granted it was only four or five feet but it was very depressing for the family as its planting had been accompanied with some fanfare and a barbecue.
