There
once was a time in recent years when you saw nothing reflected on the
surface of the village Duck Pond--not the sky--not the trees or the
clouds--just a never-ending sea of foul-smelling green soup, infested
with mosquitoes, and devoid of most other life.
Today,
thanks to the hard-work and research of the volunteer committee, we're proud to say that the
Duck Pond is again clean, clear, and home to turtles, muskrats, and
fish.

The new plantings, bird houses and yes, there are now bats there at twilight make this a serene place to sit again. We get a picnic lunch from Pete at the Croton Diner and can actually sit there and enjoy the place again.

The other day the blue of the sky was so deeply reflected in the water it actually stopped me in my tracks.
ReplyDeleteTo think that just a couple years ago, the very future of the Duck Pond was in jeopardy.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the extensive leg-work, research and recommendations of a couple of nearby citizens--who, by the way, are still at it with their ongoing beautification--the place is alive and well and teeming with wildlife.
Long live the Duck Pond!
