NEXT UP, a resident has been trying to recall some sort of "preserved flower in a crystal ball' that her mother 'had displayed on the bedroom vanity table".  From the description, your editor believes it may have been a preserved rose. 

These are still being made today but were very popular in the 50's and 60's.  In fact, the local supermarket recently had them in their floral department....but try your local florist first.

For fans of Josef Made in Japan ceramics and such, two small items from the late fifties, early sixties. A little Josef Dolls History:

Josef Originals Birthday Dolls first originated in the mid to late-1940's as Muriel Joseph George designed these creative dolls during the end of World War II. Muriel began designing these dolls to express her love for children, families, animals, and more. Her first designs were produced between 1945 and 1962 in California before moving the manufacture of the dolls to Japan for economic reasons. Former Cortlandt Town Justice Gerald Klein Dies at 76
November 23, 2020 Rick Pezzullo

Former longtime Cortlandt Town Justice Gerald M. Klein died November 13. He was 76.

Klein served on the Cortlandt bench for 28 years before losing a bid for reelection in 2017. Klein, who also had a private law practice in Croton-on-Hudson, often referred to his courtroom as a “court of hope” where he could play a role in getting young criminal offenders back on the right track.

Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi said Klein, also a former town attorney, presided our court with “distinction, fairness, integrity and with honor.” Read more at https://www.theexaminernews.com/former-cortlandt-town-justice-gerald-klein-dies-at-76/

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said he may host his 89-year-old mother Matilda for Thanksgiving — after spending the last two weeks lecturing New Yorkers about staying home for the holiday and telling their loved ones to do the same because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The story is, my mom is going to come up and two of my girls,” the governor said during an interview on WAMC radio, adding the caveat, “But the plans change. Adherence to COVID regulations was checked at the door at a recent birthday party featuring a number of Kings County powerhouses. Photos of a celebration for Carlo Scissura, head of the powerful construction trade organization New York Building Congress, show revelers in close quarters without masks. Attendees included Deputy Brooklyn Borough President Ingrid Lewis-Martin and former Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Frank Seddio.  In one image, about two dozen people are seen mingling with one another in an ornate dining area while celebrating Scissura’s 50th. Only two of them are visibly wearing masks.

In another shot, there are a dozen people crammed in the dining area, with just one person wearing a mask. Seddio can be seen in the background chatting with Lewis-Martin — neither of them with a mask. First up, another fabulous cabinet card from Suzee Que's private collection, pre-WWI, most likely French.
She's followed by a wonderful vintage Mr. & Mrs. Snowman card--probably 1950's.

And they're followed by one of the best time capsule toys ever made in our opinion. The Remco Barracuda Atomic Sub from 1963. Your editor had a cousin who wanted one of these in the worst way--alas it never found its way under the tree--until two decades later. Spotted in a tag sale--and with the very tattered box, it finally arrived one Christmas.  Needless to say there was joy in Mudville!  And finally, this year's 2020 Christmas Mantle and Military Parade.  Again, click on the photos.

Recently the subject of loggies a.k.a. log cabin putz houses came up.

Wearing a mask is important. For you and those around you. For elected officials? Not so much.

Actually, all the COVID rules are for us, not them. COVID-19, and the accompanying lockdowns, have made it painfully clear: We plebes have to follow the rules; the elites do not.

Start with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who last week groveled for forgiveness after being caught attending a large birthday dinner at The French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley. When pictures from the event surfaced, the hypocrisy was glaring: The governor was seen with his wife at a large table full of maskless lobbyists, all sitting in close proximity.

But, hey: You’re not the governor — so if you want to celebrate Thanksgiving in his state, remember: “No more than three households, including your own,” at the gathering, and keep your distance.

Newsom isn’t the only one to live it up while everyone suffers. Gov. Cuomo, for example, is rarely seen in a mask, yet his Twitter feed never stops harassing you to “mask up.” (And, by the way, he’s just thrilled with himself over his handling of the COVID-19 crisis, even though it resulted in more deaths than any other state and, according to The New York Times....READ AND SEE SO MUCH MORE AT https://nypost.com/2020/11/20/our-hypocritical-leaders-refuse-to-obey-their-own-covid-19-rules/
