Disney by Tobler, Part 2 -- The Tobler postcard series with Disney characters was published in the mid-1950s, and Part 2 ends with Lady and the Tramp (1955). 

The Tobler company was created by Emil Baumann and Theodor Tobler (1876–1941) in Bern, Switzerland, in 1908. Emil Baumann, the cousin of Theodor Tobler, created the unique Toblerone recipe consisting of milk chocolate including nougat, almonds, and honey. Theodor Tobler came up with the distinctive teardrop shape and packaging. The product's name is a portmanteau combining Tobler's name with the Italian word 'torrone' (a type of nougat).

Gov. Andrew Cuomo not only talks like he single-handedly defended New York from complete devastation by the coronavirus, he also apparently thinks he’s immune from it. Why else would he brag about his success in pushing masks to help curb the virus, while sitting . . . maskless?

Two summers ago, I took an overnight trip to visit the Lillian Nordica Homestead Museum in Farmington, Maine. Nordica (1857-1914) was and remains interesting to me in part because shewas one of the earliest participants in a phenomenon that is now integral to our society: celebrity endorsement. Before movie stars and sports heroes attached their names to products such as sneakers, soft drinks, and soaps, opera stars were among the personalities most sought after by companies to shill for their wares.

Remembering Sabu, who died this date in 1963...at the age of 39...

Sabu Dastagir (27 January 1924 – 2 December 1963) was an Indian film actor who later gained American citizenship. He was normally credited only by his first name, Sabu, and is primarily known for his work in film during the 1930s–1940s in Britain and America.

DECEMBER IS DISNEY MONTH AT EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS

From our friends at EFSP....Disney by Tobler, Part 1

December is Disney month at EFSP! Last year, we had posts with vintage postcards of several, wonderful classic features by the Walt Disney studio. This year we will update some of these posts and we'll introduce new ones about other unforgettable Disney classics. Marlene Pilaete will make a 'La Collectionneuse' post for us about classic Disney heroines, and 'Disney December at EFSP' starts with a double post on a special French postcard series. In the mid-1950s, chocolate factory Tobler produced a delightful series of 'cartes postales' with Disney heroes. The series presented the main figures of the classic features but also secondary characters. And it covered the silly symphonies of the 1930s, the Latin American films of the war years like Saludos Amigos (1943) and also such forgotten 'package films' as Song of the South (1946). SERVICE INFO AND OBITUARY FOR JOSEPH KEVIN DYMES

Joseph Kevin Dymes, 84, of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away on November 30, 2020. Kevin was born to Joseph and Anna (Davitt) Dymes on October 21, 1936 in Croton-on-Hudson.

Kevin is survived by his beloved son Kevin Dymes, Jr. (Geraldine) and daughter Sheila Lally (David). He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel, Benjamin, Kate, Maggie, Joey, Aidan, Jane, and Patrick; great grandchildren Daniel and Elaina; brothers Richard Dymes and Robert Dymes; sisters Ann Marie Ryan and Rosemary Trendell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 2pm to 5pm at EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Mary Church, Croton-on-Hudson, on Friday, December 4th at 10am. A WORD FROM THE CROTON LIONS CLUB---AND THANK YOU! The Croton Lions club would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our on going food drive to support the Croton-Cortlandt Food pantry. Members of the Croton Lions club and Grace Hall Ossining pack 300 bags of groceries on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month, having them ready for distribution on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. On Tuesday, Croton Lions Steve G and Sandi G, picked up three (3) shopping carts full of food donation bags at Foodtown. The continued generosity of the customers at Foodtown Croton is overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone for their generosity and continued support of the food pantry and the Croton Lions Club.
