‘Stunned’ Mount Kisco Resident Recounts ‘Oh Crap’ Moment

By Adam Stone

David Friedlander, 64, was in his home office alone at Brookside Village in Mount Kisco last Friday afternoon when he exclaimed “Oh crap” aloud.

An email from his corporate health care provider had just hit his inbox – and it was bad news, leaving him “stunned.”

Optum Medical Care told him that the company would no longer be in-network with any Fidelis Care health plans, including Ambetter exchange plans, effective in less than two months from now, on Jan. 1, 2026.

“This was not an easy decision for us, and we know how important the relationship is between you and your provider,” the message said.

Friedlander, his wife Deborah Zoe Laufer, and their younger son Charlie, 25, are all covered by the Fidelis Silver plan, paying about $2,400 a month to see the doctors they trust at local Optum offices, with costs set to rise to roughly $2,600 in the new year.  MORE AT STONE’S THROW: Optum’s ‘Not Easy’ Decision Leaves Local Patients Scrambling | The Examiner News
