As a corporate leader, I’ve learned that the perception of a conflict of interest can be as damaging as the conflict itself. In many organizations, if there is a reasonable basis to suspect a conflict might exist, those involved are expected to correct the situation or face disciplinary action, even termination, regardless of whether any actual misconduct occurred.
