ON LADY WHISTLEDAM'S LATEST POST....
A lot of people were surprised to see that Lady Whistledam, the gossip columnist and darling of many liberal Democrats in Croton, had agreed to publish a Guest Editorial in The Croton Chronicle.
As the Chronicle's editor, I must say that I was surprised as well. After all, the Chronicle and its editor ("the chronicler") are frequent targets of the Lady's alleged wit, which is a major reason "she" is so popular among our local liberals: While the content of the Chronicle tends distinctly left editorially and in the guest editorialists who submit pieces for consideration (something our local conservatives seldom do, but nevertheless complain about it), the publication covers most all of the diverse viewpoints in the village, including conservative voices.
The Chronicle has also tried hard to provide balanced coverage of our current election campaign, which also makes it a target for liberals with Stalinistic tendencies. And our coverage of the Lenny Amicola Trump flag controversy was not popular with some liberals who think that the best way to counter our president's attacks on freedom of expression is to force a local resident to shut up about his support of that same democratically elected leader, like it or not.
Indeed, some liberals in Croton rush to post the Lady's distinctly anonymous attacks on those in the village "she" dislikes on the Facebook pages they dominate, such as the Croton Community Group and The Croton Point, where most of her targets have been banned for their political speech and thus cannot defend themselves from calumnies and falsehoods.
In regards to the Chronicle, despite its obvious left-leaning nature (its editor is a hard leftist and not a liberal, all of his adult life), the publication does create embarrassment in some liberal circles when it calls out the hypocrisy of claiming to support DEI and then forgetting the "equity" part when our low-paid school workers fight for a full year for a decent contract from the district. So much for the supposed party of the working class, and so much more understandable that Trump and the Republicans were able to get away with claiming that banner.
The Chronicle has heard a lot of speculation about the identity of Lady Whistledam. Some think it is Ross Weale, once an active and often nasty blogger here in Croton who gave it up to manufacture some pretty mediocre muffins in Peekskill; others think it is Josh Diamond. The Lady did not reveal "her" identity to the Chronicle when she submitted her piece about the homeless in Croton, but we thought she made some very good points. Thus, despite her nasty and usually inaccurate attacks on the Chronicle, in the spirit of free speech and open discussion we agreed to publish it.
We don't know if the Lady will submit any more pieces, because she is probably very miffed that some in the village don't believe it was really her who penned the piece on the homeless, and she may have to now try to deny it to save face. That would be a pity, but Croton can sometimes be a pitiless town.
