For immediate release - Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee Rules
That Croton Democratic Party Engaged in Unfair Campaign Practices

Ruling on a complaint by mayor-elect Gregory Schmidt, the Westchester County Fair Campaign Practices Committee has found “unfair” statements made by the Croton Democratic Party in both a mailer and online during the last week of the recent Village of Croton-on-Hudson elections. This is the second consecutive election in which the committee has cited the Croton Democratic Party for unfair practices.

The most recent complaint relates to Gregory Schmidt’s record on taxes during his previous terms as mayor from 2006 to 2009. 1. I'd like to say I'm surprised but I'm not.

    1. I don't think anyone is surprised. What is surprising is that someone has finally taken them to task for what they have done after all these years! It's about time. Congratulations Croton United and to the Schuylers. You are owed a debt of thanks from the citizens and I'll be by to deliver mine personally very soon. Linda

  2. I'd like to thank the Fair Campaign Practices Committee for their rulings both years. It's unfortunate that no kind of fine can be levied.

  3. Did anyone watch tonight's meeting? Bitterness abounded. But I digress. I too would like to thank the Committee and Croton United. I also agree that until there are financial penalties for these kinds of actions, there will be little change. Then again some communities don't engage in these kinds of tactics historically. You have only to look at the Town of Cortlandt where such nonsense isn't tolerated. Perhaps with two years worth of rulings, the Town board will stop endorsing these people and what they do in letters to the paper at election time because surely it is clear to them now that doing so is a poor reflection of all the good the Town board does do.
