ANOTHER GREAT LETTER FROM BOB ANDERSON ON 'FULL TIME' MAYOR WIEGMAN'S HEALTH BENEFITS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The following letter appears in the 7/2 edition of THE GAZETTE and is re-printed here with permission:

To the editor

What would you do with approximately $7.50? Take the kids or grandkids out for ice cream? Rent a bunch of Redbox movies? Have a cup of coffee and a bagel with friends or maybe buy a sandwich at one of our delis for lunch?

Stop dreaming! That is the contribution of every household budget in the village to the taxes that will pay for the “part-time mayor’s” family to have medical and dental benefits. He refused to pay for this himself, but he and the village manager ($170K per year) are exploring a loophole to the “part-time mayor’s" benefit.

Fellow taxpayers, this is the ultimate “Double-Dip”!  He not only gets you to pay for his benefits as a “part-timer” but here is the kicker: His household budget increases by the amount he previously paid. Let’s assume $12,000 - $15,000 (I think he’s frugal with his money, not yours) that is a personal bonus to him and his family, money they did not have before!

What would you do with that extra cash? That’s a lot of ice cream!

How can we stop the madness in Croton? Suggestions are gladly welcomed.

Bob Anderson
