  1. It is beyond my comprehension how people can go into that river, its dangerous, especially after storms. It has a changeable nature, always has. That being said, another terrible tragedy for yet another season. Let's hope this is the last for the year.

  2. Really sad. Thank God, the children weren't hurt at least.

  3. I try not to be bitter about this but when Schmidt was mayor, the cries that he was exposing the village to lawsuits and responsible for the deaths of imagined 'drowned children' were deafening. There was even a mock trial touted on one of the silly partisan blogs. NOW of course, it's all a tragedy (it is) but you hear not one wit when friends are in charge. It is the duplicity on top of a horrible event that is so troublesome. I do wish people would not go into that water, or any water at all, if they are not really good swimmers. The much touted idea for "river rangers", NEVER REAL, because of the costs, was a simpleton's idea. Maybe what we need are signs everywhere, down the length and breadth of the river on both sides in multiple languages saying DANGER, SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK, NO SWIMMING, WHATEVER. All that said, I heard some sort of fund was being set up in the Bronx for the family and if you find anything at all about that, please post the information.
