Department Training was held tonight consisting of members from the five Companies. Altamura went over the new pre-rigged equipment bags carried on Tower Ladder 44 & Rescue 18. Members took turns working with the equipment and reviewing different scenarios and tactics. SOME BITS AND PIECES ABOUT THE OLD PERFUME FACTORY ON BROOK STREET IN CROTON

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON

We're always delighted when we come across bits and pieces about the "perfume factory" that once existed on Brook Street.  It was called COMPAGNIE PARENTO and while no longer in the village, the company is still in existence today. (YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT THE CROTON SITE HERE.)

According to the company website, Addington Doolittle, founder of Compagnie Parento, Inc. believed it was time to break the American dependency on imported perfumes and start an American manufacturing operation.

Compagnie Parento, Inc. began creating and producing fragrance oils in the United States just after the turn of the 20th century. (For more about COMPAGNIE PARENTO, click here.)

We recently came across some ads and such from assorted perfume and toiletry trade publications back in the day and thought you might have an interest.  Click on the images below.

FAUCI, AT LAST, AN ADMISSION--KIND OF--DEFENDS MODEST COLLABORATION WITH WUHAN SCIENTISTS AND SENATE PASSES GAIN OF FUNCTION RESEARCH IN CHINA BAN

This post is closed to all comments. Comments and questions must be referred to the media source(s) cited.

*********

#1 - National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci on Tuesday defended "modest" collaboration with scientists in Wuhan, China on studying bat coronaviruses while asserting that the agency did not allocate the money to do "gain of function" research.

The comments came during a House Appropriations Committee subcommittee hearing on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) fiscal year 2022 budget request. Fauci was asked by Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., on a $600,000 grant from NIAID that went to a group called EcoHealth Alliance, which then paid the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study the risk that bat coronaviruses could infect humans....... Francis Collins, the director of NIH, had said earlier in the hearing that the American taxpayer money that went to the Wuhan Institute of Virology was not approved to conduct gain of function research, which is research that involves modifying a virus to make it more infectious among humans. **********

#2 Cheers and applause rang out in the Senate chamber on Tuesday evening after passage of an amendment offered by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), which bans the use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to fund gain-of-function research in China.............Despite Dr. Fauci's denial, there is ample evidence and backing by the scientific community that the NIH and the NIAID, under his direction, funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. A multitude of scientists have reviewed this research and said it meets the definition for gain-of-function.
