A reader has many happy memories of taking his saved-up allowance, summer job quarters, and "snow shoveling money"----and being allowed to "Christmas shop" on his own. One of his favorite places to do that was THE BOOK AND RECORD STORE in Croton (a cookbook for grandma and the latest best sellers she loved, old "doo-wop" records for Dad, opera for Mom, and if there was anything left over, the latest rock for him). He distinctly remembered the smell of the vinyl records and how crowded the place always was, especially on Saturdays......and that while eventually joining the MAIL ORDER RECORD CLUB advertised in the old TV Guides was fun, it just didn't have the same "meet a pretty girl" potential......
