MORE EVERYTHING CROTON'S FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC.

Serendipity...a friend was recently forced to replace much of the plumbing in an old addition to the back of her house. Fortunately it turned out well and the price didn't break the bank. Of course one of the walls had to be opened up--into which tons and tons of old magazines and newspapers had been stuffed for insulation purposes, a common practice in the "old days". Nearly all of these were wet or moldy or disintegrating past all redemption EXCEPT for one magazine stuffed up high...the December 5, 1936 Saturday Evening Post. Rolled into a tight little log, the mere act of unrolling the pages often proved too much BUT...at least half were salvageable to one degree or another---and with the help of an iron, the scanner, and a lot of patience, we were able to save this fantastic old ad for Margaret Mitchell's epic novel: GONE WITH THE WIND! Click on it!

We hope to salvage more! Stay tuned. You may also enjoy Robert Scott's 'FRANKLY MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN" at http://notorc.blogspot.com/2009/05/frankly-my-dear-i-dont-give-damn.html

  1. I found a few of those glass beaded ornaments in Virginia a few years ago. Mine are shaped into birds. I had no idea they were Czach let alone that old and maybe even valuable as it turns out. Thanks!
