EXAMINER NEWS: CROTON CONSIDERS REPEAL OF BAN ON TATTOO PARLORS

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

TO THOSE WHO HAVE ASKED---IT IS NOT CLEAR WHO THIS "CATHERINE L" IS MENTIONED BELOW  IN THE ARTICLE: Croton Considering Repealing 30-Year-Old Ban on Tattoo Parlors-

By Samuel Rowland----The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Board of Trustees is considering lifting a ban on inking tattoos for non-medical purposes within village limits.  A public hearing was held on the issue at the board’s July 19 meeting, which ended with a unanimous motion to keep the public hearing open for the next meeting, on August 2.

“Unless I hear otherwise, my current position is that New York State requires a permit for a tattoo parlor and a special license for the people that perform it,” said Deputy Mayor Ann Gallelli, who was unable to attend the July 19 public hearing. “This is an outdated piece of code.”  No constituents spoke at the July 19 public hearing on the issue. Two residents, Marie Considine and Catherine L., had left email messages with the board before the meeting, which were noted and summarized for the record by Village Manager Janine King. ABOUT THAT POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW... A LETTER FROM THIS WEEK'S GAZETTE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Many communities are opting-out of allowing pot shops. A letter in this week's Gazette makes the counter-argument, and also points out that---contrary to statements by some local officials---there may not be much tax revenue for Croton. Click on the images below:

LATEST FAUCI, GAIN OF FUNCTION, NO, NEVER, OOPS, KIND OF, AND THEN LAST NIGHT ON CNN

BACKGROUND FIRST: FAUCI, ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, THAN NOT, GAIN OF FUNCTION RESEARCH, NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, LIKE BEING A "LITTLE BIT PREGNANT"

Dr. Anthony Fauci was absolutely adamant that the National Institutes of Health has never funded dangerous research on bat viruses in the Chinese lab suspected of being the source of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he was questioned by Republican Sen. Rand Paul two weeks ago.

“Senator Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely and completely incorrect that the NIH has not ever and does not now fund ‘gain of function’ research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Fauci said in the fiery Senate hearing on May 11.

He couldn’t have been more certain.

Until he wasn’t certain a few hours later.

That very afternoon, Fauci admitted to “a very minor collaboration as part of a subcontract of a grant we had a collaboration with some Chinese scientists,” during an appearance at Poynter.org’s “festival of fact checking.”

It’s like being a little bit pregnant. READ THE VERY LENGTHY ARTICLE AT https://nypost.com/2021/05/26/enough-of-faucis-lies-devine/

A REMINDER & BY SPECIAL REQUEST - ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES: CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ARE ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS FOR 2021-22

Wow---the local interest in this has been up there....especially in the last few months.....Had a request for additional high school opportunities for boys and girls and will try to follow up soon....However, the link below is really useful for that.

ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES: CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ARE ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS FOR 2021-22

The blog gets lots of commentary from parents concerned about the direction that public schools are taking with respect to CRT, gender issues, yet another year of possible virtual learning, etc. With that in mind, another option....

From a recent St. Augustine Catholic Church bulletin----For those of you considering a faith-based, future focused Catholic education for your children:  Catholic Schools Are Accepting New Students for 2021-22.....Now is a good time to consider a Catholic education! Good academics, discipline, and five days a week of in-person instruction for all students starting in 2021-22. Beyond an excellent education, Catholic Schools instill family values and a sense of community. For many, Catholic Schools are a home away from home – a place of safety and faith in a rapidly changing world. Financial assistance is still available at most schools.  Visit https://catholicschoolsny.org/admissions/apply or call our bilingual Parent Helpline at (646) 794-2885 to apply.

R.I.P. JACKIE MASON

One of our favorite comedians.....

Jackie Mason, a rabbi-turned-comedian whose feisty brand of standup comedy led him to Catskills nightclubs, West Coast talk shows and Broadway stages, has died. He was 93.

Mason died Saturday at 6 p.m. ET at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan after being hospitalized for over two weeks, the celebrity lawyer Raoul Felder told The Associated Press.

AN END OF JULY 2021 UPDATE ON THE CUOMO NURSING HOME SCANDAL, OTHER STATES TOO, BIDEN DOJ DROPS CIVIL RIGHTS PROBE OF CUOMO, NO WHITMER INVESTIGATION ETC

The Department of Justice has decided not to investigate whether the civil rights of residents in New York’s government-run nursing homes were violated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s controversial admission policy related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter Friday, the DOJ’s Office of Legislative Affairs told US Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), ranking member of that House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, that New York was off the hook in connection with potential violations of the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act.

In August, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division requested information from New York in connection with a March 25, 2020, order from the state Department of Health that required nursing homes to admit “medically stable” COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals.

It also sought records from Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Jersey, which adopted similar rules that the DOJ said “may have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home residents.” READ THE EXTENSIVE ARTICLE AT https://nypost.com/2021/07/23/doj-drops-civil-rights-probe-of-cuomo-nursing-home-covid-scandal/

ALBANY — Taxpayers have shelled out nearly $800,000 to the lawyers representing Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his top aides in their defense against charges that the administration withheld data pertaining to COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes and misused state resources in the production of the governor’s $5.1 million book deal.

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

BY SPECIAL REQUEST AND IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, AN INDEX TO THE LATE ROBERT SCOTT'S "CHRONICLES OF CROTON'S BOHEMIA" SERIES....(an additional request for an index to Scott's "train" articles is forthcoming).

For those who don't know, Scott was a long time resident of the village, a historian, and a no-nonsense kind of guy who spoke his mind on everything from the ill-fated acquisition of the Gouveia property to Harmon re-zoning.  We didn't always agree but his analysis of local issues was always cogent and well-researched. He died in 2018....And now....
