THE PERILS OF A ONE PARTY VILLAGE GOVERNMENT AND MUCH MORE

The following letter appeared in the 11/1 edition of THE GAZETTE from Robert Wintermeier.  It is re-printed here with permission.

To the editor:

Did you support the $50K Exxon Lawsuit to prevent the installation of a canopy to protect drivers from the rain and snow while filling their gas tanks?  Well Croton lost the suit and paid around $50,000 in legal fees.

Did you support the acquisition of the Gouveia estate with an additional million dollars over 3 years ago with a restriction that it only be used for passive recreation?  What was your reaction to taxpayers picking up the lost $40,000 in annual property taxes when the Democratic Croton Village Board accepted the property?  How about your reaction to the secret backroom deal between former Mayor Wiegman andTrustee Gallelli with the “Something Good in the World” regarding the use ofthe Gouveia property to provide alternative educational services to local and out-of-towners for grades Pre-K through Grade 12?  How do you feel today as you drive past this estate lying idle between the Albany Post Road and Route 9?

Are you in favor of the Village proposed 20-cent ordnance for plastic and paper shopping bags at major retailers like Shoprite and CVS?  Will this fee be considered discriminatory by the courts should these firms decide to sue?  If a law suit occurs, what will the legal fees amount to?  Is this a first step to include other plastic bags such as those for newspapers, cleaner bags, drop-cloths, etc.?

If you don’t support these changes, you should know that there is no official voice to support you since Croton is now a one-party village.  That means that even if you don’t vote, each Democratic candidate can caste a single vote to be elected.  Is that the kind of village you want?

If you want representation in Croton, there is no other party to turn to if the Democrats remain in power.  In addition, there is nothing you can do to change that this year.   Your best is to vote for NY Senator Terrence Murphy.  He’s the only voice available that represent a different party between Croton and Albany!

  1. Or how the whole board at the time went along with the mayor's claim that he was full time and entitled to thousands and thousands in taxpayer paid health insurance? https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2014/10/wtf-wiegmans-timesheet-fable-important.html
