AN EVERYTHING CROTON SMILE 4 THE DAY, DOGS ARE MARVELOUS

And so it was that the three conspirators, sensing the time was right--for Mama was off doing the laundry--did seize the much desired but forbidden down jacket off the back of a chair, and laying it in the sun, snuggled down for a nap. AFTER they ate the remaining Baked by Susan scone tucked away in a pocket.  Click on the photo to see the guilty parties up close and personal.

--Carolyn found this very cool silhouette image from an old Dennison's gala party book--she thought it would make interesting subject matter for a putz house window. We agree. Click on the photo. A free sheet of these windows in assorted sizes for printing will soon be available.

MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHINGCROTON

We love love this old ad for Schlitz beer--from 1945.  It says alot about the times--and how supplies for the fighting men  came first during WWII.

Now here’s an interesting piece of architecture, an old opera house from Kingston, NY http://www.fohk.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/S-Oprah.gif

Greenleaf makes a number of small village kits—the parts are a light weight wood—and instead of putting them together, a friend has used them to create her own modified patterns for cardboard houses. They have three kits available; they are also the right size for under the tree or for an HO train layout:

Not long ago we featured a link to mid century putz house patterns at Retro Renovation; here’s a link to some that Lee made; click on the link, scroll down the page http://www.cardboardchristmas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=300

EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY NAME'S FAIR TRADE/EQUAL EXCHANGE MINISTRY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

If you missed yesterday's Fair Trade/Equal Exchange Coffee and Chocolate sale at Holy Name of Mary (click on the photo), there'll be another! Stay tuned.

And for those who have asked about this ministry--in their own words: As the second most heavily traded commodity in the world, coffee is a link between those of us who drink it and farming communities in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Yet the small farmers who grow coffee or other commodities often struggle to make a simple living. Cut off from markets, they are forced to accept low prices. In partnership with faith-based organizations, such as Holy Name of Mary, Equal Exchange is a bridge between these farmers and us. Trading directly with democratically-organized small farmer cooperatives, Equal Exchange facilitates farmers’ access to credit, pays them a guaranteed minimum price that provides a stable source of income as well as improved social services, and teaches them sustainable agriculture and environmentally-sound business practices. And check this out: Since they began selling Fair Trade coffee, chocolate, and snacks at HNM in April 2005, they have purchased some $40,000 worth of these Fair Trade products.

And there you have it...

(see the winners and all the nominees at the link below http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2012/12/and-winner-iseverythingcrotons-cute-dog.html), 2013 is going to be all about CROTON’S “TOP DOG” OF THE MONTH—a chance to showcase the bigger, beefier, beautiful, handsome and older village dogs.

HERE’S EVERYTHING CROTON’S TOP DOG FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2013: Ginger, a hunting hound who was rescued after being abandoned in Florida with a litter of puppies. The puppies were placed and Ginger came to live with her new Mom in Croton.  She's sweet and alert--and very much a "girl". Click on the photo. And stay tuned for the MARCH TOP DOG OF THE MONTH.
