Think you know Piet Boonstra, President of The Croton Historical Society? Think again!
Piet has a VERY interesting blog detailing his love of...motorcycles...his adventures, and more. Fabulous photos, insights, etc. In fact, there are more than 1600 photos posted there from 66 years of motorcycling since he bought his first Harley in 1947. They are from many years of enduro competition and many years of adventure touring, including eight trips to Alaska over various routes, several back-road tours around the US, one each to Newfoundland and Labrador, and two into Mexico - one of which was to visit the Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula and the other was deep into Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains of western Mexico - on a Gold Wing. NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN: BIOGRAPHY OF DIRK BEREND BOONSTRA - A poignant WWII biography told mainly through 60+ very personal letters home. Dirk first served as a tail gunner in a TBF torpedo bomber, operating off of the carrier USS Sangamon during the North African invasion. He received a Presidential Unit Citation for "extraordinary heroism in action" there. Later in the Pacific, aboard the carrier USS Princeton, and also on the tiny island of Munda in the central Solomon Islands, where Pappy Boyington's Black Sheep Squadron was also based, he saw heavy action as a tail gunner in SBD dive-bombers. Dirk was killed in 1943 in a tragic plane crash while returning from R&R in Sydney. READ MORE HERE http://amzn.to/1jsdlNd
