NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, MORE ON THOSE PAY RAISES, BORGIA ETC.

WHITE PLAINS - Westchester County lawmakers defended a slew of planned raises for themselves, county department heads and other non-union staff that were first discussed publicly on Monday.

HIGHLIGHTS - Lawmakers are planning to boost their pay to $75,000 from $49,200 a year, a 52% increase, and they’re also expected to approve a slew of other raises that include 26% increases for many commissioners as part of the 2020 budget process....Commissioners would see their pay move to as much as $195,000 next year from today's rate of $155,000. And some positions in the medical arena would get hikes of $70,000 or more by 2020.The county Board of Legislators advanced the proposal at the meeting Monday by setting a public hearing for Dec. 3 on salary measures.
Catherine Borgia, D-Ossining, chairwoman of the legislature’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, said the timing was right for raises after non-union management didn’t get increases since 2007 and lawmakers didn’t give themselves raises since 2005..."We know the work that we do is significant,” Borgia said. “We are very grateful to our staff, for the dedication that they show to serving the people of Westchester County and we believe this is a good use of county resources." IN THE NEWS: GET WOKE, GO BROKE, CHARLIE'S ANGELS BOMBS AT THE BOX OFFICE

Fans of the Charlie's Angels series are certainly disappointed.....The ultra-woke feminist lecturing vehicle that was the “Charlie’s Angels” reboot crashed at the box office this weekend with an abysmal $8.6 million at the domestic box office, and a global haul of just $19.3 million, for a worldwide total of $26.1 million. The film had a $48 million budget before marketing costs. READ MORE HERE.

FAB SWANSON POSTCARD UNEARTHED! FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS--New finds at the The International Collectors Fair 2019

Last weekend, Utrecht hosted once again 'The International Collectors Fair', Europe’s biggest Vintage Event. Among the finds was this fabulous Dutch postcard, no. 610. Photo: Metro Goldwyn Mayer--featuring one of Croton's most notable residents--Gloria Swanson.....

In 1934 Gloria Swanson did a photo shoot involving this tiger rug and hairdo, before acting in the Jerome Kern musical Music in the air (Joe May, 1934). While some sources say the photos were made by Clarence Sinclair Bull, other sources silence the photographer. (Click on the photo).

Many thanks to our friends at EFSP for bringing us this wonderful image....see more from the fair at https://filmstarpostcards.blogspot.com/2019/11/new-finds-at-the-international.html

LET'S RECOGNIZE TWO INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE VILLAGE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Let’s Recognize Two Individuals for Their Contributions to the Village

November 16, 2019

The following letter was published in this week’s issue of the Gazette.

To the Editor,  I have tried for over a year to have Croton’s current Board of Trustees recognize two individuals for their contributions to the village. There has been no action. The only responses during that time came from Brian Pugh, Ian Murtaugh and Sherry Horowitz.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand the difficulty in “reaching consensus” on this. Is it because the board members keep switching every couple of months? Even with the personnel changes the board has managed to name the meeting room, the trails, and a street, pretty much in the blink of an eye. Honoring Dr. Greg Schmidt requires no real discussion after the years of service he has provided to the village in both his public and private capacity.

Similarly, Anne Kennedy created the Croton Caring Committee, and without her there would be no Croton Caring. I strongly disagree with the Mayor’s assertion that if the Caring Committee wants to recognize her, it’s their job.

Recognizing the contributions of an individual resident to our community as a whole, which Anne Kennedy absolutely deserves, is the job of this board. Since 1981 the Caring Committee has not simply helped Croton residents in need, it has let the members of our community know that even in hard times, there are neighbors who care. I think that is something worthy of recognition.

I have made three or four attempts to have these people recognized. It’s been over a year and there has been no forward progress. Please do your job. Do the right thing.

These two individuals gave almost 70 years of service to the village. Dr. Schmidt as a trustee, mayor, rotarian, and the force behind 31 years of Summerfest. Anne Kennedy founded the Caring Committee and put her heart into it for over thirty years.

The lack of action is startling and disheartening. Not everything has to be about politics, especially not in a small community like Croton. Sometimes we recognize people for the decades of service that have left Croton a better place.

Bob Anderson

An important annual fundraiser, this event is one of the highlights in the local holiday shopping scene.  In addition to White Elephant, new, and hand-crafted items, there's also some of the best baked goods around for miles because...we all know that "church ladies" can bake!  There will also be vegan food offerings, and a table of fair trade products for gift-giving.

All that being said, here's a sneak peek at something very special being offered at this year's sale.  An extensive and very minty collection---click on the photos--from the mid-1960's and The Ideal Toy Company's "Petite Princess" Fantasy Doll House furniture and accessories line.  It's an opportunity to own a piece of vintage toy history! Their most popular dolls included Betsy Wetsy, Toni, Saucy Walker, Shirley Temple, Miss Revlon, Patti Playpal, Tammy, Thumbelina, and Crissy.

But back to the furniture---From a brochure: “Petite Princess Fantasy Furniture is hand crafted of satins, brocades, porcelain, brass, glass mirrors, and other fine materials. You will find soft, plush chairs and sofas, gilt-edged mirrors, dressers and cabinets with drawers and doors that really open and close. Everything you can dream of. Perfectly made, so you can play with it, collect it, and be the perfect Petite Princess."
