SOME PHOTOS FROM THE CROTON FIRE DEPARTMENT'S 2014 CANDY CANE RUN

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Santa Claus--courtesy of your all volunteer Croton Fire Department--made the rounds today on the annual Candy Cane Run.

We caught up with Santa in the historic Upper Village, where he and his merry men had just visited the Acker House (http://ackerhouseny.com/), currently hosting the Kenotin Gift Shop, a pop-up shop that has taken up temporary residence on the first floor till the end of the year--and possibly beyond. You can read more about that here: http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2014/11/a-few-photos-from-opening-of-pop-up.html

From there Santa was greeted by Emily Prince of Sunshine and Clover--and her daughter--then Santa and company were off to other points throughout the village.

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Well another God Squad Sleep-Out has come and gone. After an evening of torrential rain and gusting winds, the team made it through the evening--greeted by The Knights of Columbus who provided hot coffee and a much needed breakfast early this morning. The God Squad continued to take donations till 11 a.m.

Click on the photos below.  With special thanks to Hopscotch for their donation of last night's soup and to Baked by Susan for her fresh baked bread.

PHOTOS FROM THE 2014 GOD SQUAD SLEEP-OUT @ HOLY NAME OF MARY IN CROTON

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Despite a steady cold rain, falling temperatures and mud just about everywhere, Holy Name of Mary's God Squad embarked upon their annual Sleep-out at 4 pm today. The purpose: to increase awareness of what it is like to be homeless--and to raise funds for CHOP (Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill). Representatives of CHOP were also on hand, including the executive director of the Jan Peek House, CHOP, Donna Besteiro.

In addition, the God Squad was also collecting clothing and blankets to be distributed at the next Midnight Run on 12/27, as well as canned goods for the local food bank. This year the God Squad was joined by teens from the parish of St. Margaret of Antioch in Pearl River.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan made a special appearance, offering words of encouragement to the teens and ministry leader, Carl Barnes.

The God Squad sleep-out will continue until 11 am Sunday morning. As always, the Knights of Columbus will make breakfast in the morning.  The God Squad will continue to collect donations after all masses.
