IN THE NEWS: JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY SAYS LOCKDOWNS HAD LITTLE OR NO IMPACT ON COVID-19 DEATHS, NEW STUDY SHOWS

Lockdowns in the U.S. and Europe had little or no impact in reducing deaths from COVID-19, according to a new analysis by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

The lockdowns during the early phase of the pandemic in 2020 reduced COVID-19 mortality by about 0.2%, said the broad review of multiple scientific studies.  “We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote.  READ MORE AT https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/jan/31/lockdowns-had-little-or-no-impact-covid-19-deaths-/

THE EXAMINER NEWS: NORTH CASTLE DENOUNCES SEN. HARCKHAM'S ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT LEGISLATION

Welcome to Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As this has been the subject of considerable online discussion, here's how nearby NORTH CASTLE is handling it:

No. Castle Denounces Harckham Accessory Dwelling Unit Legislation

North Castle Supervisor Michael Schiliro and the Town Board came out swinging last week against a bill introduced by Sen. Peter Harckham in the state Senate to allow for widespread accessory apartments.

North Castle officials are prepared to fight a local state senator’s bill to allow for as-of-right accessory dwelling units statewide by galvanizing other municipalities to raise opposition to their state representatives and Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Last week, the Town Board unanimously passed a resolution denouncing bill S4547A, a measure that has been proposed by state Sen. Peter Harckham (D-Lewisboro) which would allow at least one accessible dwelling unit on every residential parcel and parcels that have residential uses. MORE AT https://www.theexaminernews.com/no-castle-denounces-harckham-accessory-dwelling-unit-legislation/

**********************

Hochul pulls affordable housing proposal from state budget--Gov. Hochul saw the expansion of "accessory dwelling units" as a way to combat a statewide crisis in affordable housing, but the proposal has drawn criticism from Republicans and some Democrats, who say it could harm suburban neighborhoods. IN THE NEWS: BLM SCANDAL ESCALATING, CO-FOUNDER TIED TO OTHER GROUPS WITH SPENDING 'RED FLAGS'

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors — who resigned in the wake of a Post expose of her spending spree on lavish homes — is tied to several other fundraising organizations whose finances raise “potential red flags,” according to a new report.

One of the groups, Reform LA Jails, in 2019 collected more than $1.4 million, of which $205,000 went to a consulting company owned by Cullors and her spouse Janaya Khan, New York magazine said...................
Jeffrey Tenenbaum, a nonprofit lawyer in Washington, DC, told the magazine that the various payments may have violated state and federal laws that prohibit self-dealing and transactions among related parties.

“The transactions at issue certainly raise eyebrows and potential red flags,” he said.
