FOR THOSE OF US FOLLOWING THE ESCALATING NURSING HOME SCANDAL: CUOMO.... AGAIN... BLASTED FOR BLAMING COVID-19 DEATHS ON "INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT".... BUT NOT HIS... NUMBERS STILL NOT DISCLOSED

Gov. Andrew Cuomo was roasted for blaming COVID-19 deaths on “incompetent government” — without mentioning his own administration’s controversial nursing-home policy that’s been accused of leading to more than 8,700 senior deaths.

During a Tuesday appearance on MSBNC, Cuomo accused former President Donald Trump of mishandling the pandemic, saying: “Incompetent government kills people. More people died than needed to die in COVID. That’s the truth.”

The assertion, which Cuomo later repeated on CNN, was quickly seized upon by critics who alluded to the state’s since-rescinded March mandate for nursing homes to accept “medically stable” coronavirus patients.

“This clown bro. Does he seriously not consider what happened with the nursing homes in NY a complete incompetent disaster??” tweeted @sethompson__.

OBITUARY & SERVICE INFO FOR JOHN PALENCSAR

John Palencsar passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, January 25. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his wife Deborah, daughter Lauren Dillon (Michael), son Stephen and grandchildren Evelyn Dillon, Grayson Dillon and Casey Palencsar. He was predeceased by his parents Nancy and John Palencsar.

John was born on August 14, 1949 in the Bronx. He attended High School at Mount Saint Michael Academy and college at the University of Dayton and Iona College. John married Deborah Jones in 1970. John and Deborah left the Bronx and settled in Croton on Hudson, New York where they raised their two children. John loved Croton but he always held the Bronx close to his heart. His closest friends were Bronx born and like John many of them put down roots in Croton.

John began his career as an English teacher at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx. He went on to pursue a career in Financial Planning. First, working at Metropolitan Life where he was frequently recognized for his abilities and accomplishments. John later worked for Guardian Insurance and opened his own Croton based office, Innovative Planning. John enjoyed a close personal relationship with his clients and counted many of them as friends.

John loved nothing more than his family and played an active role in the lives of his children. He was a regular at school functions, athletic events and everything else his children pursued. He enjoyed coaching and held the role of the Croton Little League President for several years.

As John’s children grew older, he returned to his love of teaching, earning his Master's and Doctorate in History. He was an Adjunct History Professor at Western Connecticut University, the University at Albany, and most recently SUNY New Paltz. John was described as a “rockstar” professor who was admired and respected by students and colleagues alike. John’s passion for History was matched only by his passion for life and love of his grandchildren. "Pop" was adored by them and as he was for his own children, a constant presence in their life.

John will be remembered as a loyal friend, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in John's name should be made to: St Judes Children's Research Hospital. www.stjude.org

IN THE NEWS: FEDERAL MONITOR, WESTCHESTER "SUBSTAINTIALLY MET ITS OBLIGATIONS" IN HOUSING CASE

Welcome to Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our schools, our businesses, our houses of worship-----in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

LOOKS LIKE FORMER COUNTY EXECUTIVE ROB ASTORINO WAS RIGHT AFTER ALL....

LOHUD - Federal monitor: Westchester "substantially met its obligations" in housing case -- The federal monitor singled out the town of Harrison and village of Pelham Manor for failing to make any changes to its zoning codes, "meaning that potentially exclusionary zoning remains in place."

David McKay Wilson--Rockland/Westchester Journal News

Tax Watch columnist David McKay Wilson unpacks housing monitor Stephen Robinson's long-awaited report.

The federal housing monitor overseeing Westchester’s compliance with a 2009 consent order said the county had “substantially met its obligations under the settlement.”

His pronouncement was met immediately with a rebuke by the man who filed the initial lawsuit that challenged the county's housing policies.

And the monitor singled out 14 predominantly white suburban communities for not doing enough to encourage affordable housing.

Monitor Stephen Robinson made the comments in his report to the US District Court for the Southern District late Tuesday, his first filing in the case since he was appointed almost four years ago. MORE AT Federal monitor says Westchester County complied in housing case. (lohud.com)

Why is Biden looking to give free vaccines to other nations before US reaches herd immunity?  On Thursday, Anthony Fauci informed the World Health Organization that the Biden administration will participate in WHO’s vaccine-sharing project. That reverses President Donald Trump’s America First approach. Fauci says the goal is to ensure “equitable access” to vaccines for all countries in the world, rich and poor alike. FOR THOSE OF US FOLLOWING THE ESCALATING NURSING HOME SCANDAL: TOP DEM THREATENS TO SUBPOENA CUOMO

Yes...still waiting..........

ALBANY — The top Democrat on the state Senate Investigations Committee threatened to subpoena the state Health Department to release the total number of nursing home residents who died of COVID-19, because he’s tired of their months-long stonewalling.

“It is downright insulting to the co-equal State Legislature that, six months later, DOH is continuing to stonewall us on basic questions,” seethed a furious state Sen. Jame Skoufis (D-Newburgh) during an unrelated press conference in Albany Monday.  READ MORE AT https://nypost.com/2021/01/25/albany-pol-threatens-to-subpoena-cuomo-over-nursing-home-deaths/

Examiner Media Exclusive - Exclusive: Cortlandt Foreman Probed for Alleged Illegal Dumping Scheme with Peekskill Landscaper

A longtime Town of Cortlandt employee and a Peekskill-based landscaping company are being investigated by federal and county authorities for an alleged scheme involving illegal dumping on town property and the submission of fraudulent invoices totaling more than $100,000 for work not performed.

“The only way this worked is because there was someone on the inside,” said Cortlandt Town Attorney Thomas Wood. “There was someone in management.”

NY POST: BIDEN'S TRANS ORDER UNDOES DECADES OF FEMINIST PROGRESS & GABBARD'S BILL TO "PROTECT WOMEN'S SPORTS"

The blog continues to receive comments and questions about the president's recent order and how it affects local women's/girl's sports, possible scholarship issues, etc. in their school district. (The original article/order info can be found at https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2021/01/the-end-of-womens-sports.html)

Once again, questions and comments on these issues are best directed to the school district responsible. If, however, more info about local policy becomes available, links will be posted here. In the meantime, you may find this editorial and additional article of interest.....And again, good luck.

The Biden presidency, we’re told, is a historic win for women. With Kamala Harris as his Madam Vice President and a record number of women in his Cabinet, the new commander in chief is advancing the female cause. “This is what breaking the glass ceiling looks like,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar enthused on Inauguration Day.  As is often the case, the gratuitous symbolic victories distract from more significant, material losses. Hours after Harris became the first female vice president, Biden signed an executive order that discriminates against her entire sex.  MORE AT https://nypost.com/2021/01/22/bidens-trans-order-undoes-decades-of-feminist-progress/

A SUITABLY COLD SUNDAY IN CROTON-ON-HUDSON 2021

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Yes indeed....life is slowly returning to normal in the Hudson Valley....click on the photos and links.

Just a reminder that if you have not yet visited the Croton Estuary at the parking lot in the winter, dress extra warmly, and grab the camera. It's well worth worth it.  Mornings are especially rewarding.

But first things first---fortify yourself accordingly with the stuff of local legend:

A Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich from the Croton Mini Deli.

Yes there have even been stories written about this place....

See  FOODSTOPS EVERY CROTON COLLEGE STUDENT MISSES--among them Croton Mini Deli, the Croton Diner, and more--7 in all; click on the link http://theodysseyonline.com/suny-oswego/food-stops-croton-students-miss/345407

But back to the estuary....

The reflective qualities of shallow winter ice are almost magical and colors become more intense--especially the blues.  Throw in early morning sunlight and well...

The photos speak for themselves.

Your visit may also be rewarded with an occasional eagle, merganser duck, and pintail sighting.

And of course it's just a hop, skip and a jump to nearby Croton Point Park---which possesses it's own kind of magic during the winter months.  Wonderful walking trails and some spectacular views await you.

The site of a closed landfill, capped long ago and the subject of a recent meadow restoration, the park also contains many wonderful old buildings--admittedly in varying states of condition. (SEE THE PHOTO BELOW).   The park, rich in natural and human history, is also home to historic wine cellars that are thought of be the oldest in New York State, as well as the Croton Point Nature Center.

You can read and see more about the Point's wine industry and the Underhill family at these links:

--MORE ABOUT THE UNDERHILL FAMILY AND THE VINEYARDS AT  https://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2020/10/one-last-time-by-special-request.html

Of course after several hours of hiking and photographing in the cold January air, there's only one thing that will satisfy for lunch....

And that's the Greek Lemon Soup at the Croton Colonial Restaurant and Diner----a.k.a. Croton Diner.

Currently open from 9 am to 9 pm daily, it's a welcoming place with everything from breakfast to dinner....keep track of what's happening at their facebook page here.  Their STUFFED SHRIMP is also quite amazing.

And for those who may have missed it: A LOOK BACK AT THE CROTON DINER--click on the link http://bit.ly/2umkWc7

p.s.  And they were the 2013 HUDSON VALLEY GATEWAY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR for their charitable work as well; click here

We finished up our afternoon with a quick stop in Apple Farm (in the old Grand Union/Zeytinia site--more or less--for some of you former village residents) to pick up the best POPPY SEED ROLL from Northside Bakery.

Apple Farm is a wonderful addition to the local business community

ALL AND ALL, a banner day in the village....no drama...and quite a few smiles.
