It Happened in Croton by Fabiana Chiu for The (Greater) Croton Songbook

The place was Croton-on-Hudson. The year was 1946. Twelve years young and with flowing long dark hair, Dorothy Botkin (now Dorothy Rosenthal) was busy helping her parents (Ben and Gertrude) get ready for a very important visit. The NYS Archeological Assn, in conjunction with Westchester County Parks, hosted the event today at the Croton Point Nature Center.

The Nature Center is also home to archival collections and a library.

PHOTOS, 2017 BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS AT HOLY NAME OF MARY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Well it was a packed house at today's HOLY NAME OF MARY BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS in the Peace Garden.  Father Brennan bestowed the annual blessing in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment to a largely well behaved and varied contingent of canines and quite a few kitties.

Click on the photos below. High resolution copies have been sent to the parish secretary.

ANOTHER GREAT TOY, COURTESY OF CROTON'S OWN SERIOUS TOYZ--THE JEWEL T CIRCUS TRAIN

A superb vintage train set  made by Unique Art and featured in a 2009 auction at Croton's own SERIOUSTOYZ.COM:

The "Jewel T Circus" Electric Train Set, 1950, Unique Art, 5 car "O" gauge set is 44" long & features a locomotive engine, tender, two box cars, and a caboose.

Unique Art appears to have exclusively produced this circus train for the "Jewel T" Home Delivery Service; untested, individual car condition ranged from C9 to NM.

It's an extremely scarce set and this one was in beautiful condition.

At the SeriousToyz 2009 auction, it sold for $1,581.44.

PLEASE NOTE--SERIOUS TOYZ IS NO MORE.

Unique Art (out of Newark N.J.) made a number of beautiful tin toys; our personal favorite---also featured in a previous SERIOUS TOYZ AUCTION---the DOGPATCH LIL ABNER BAND.

You can see it here http://bit.ly/2g02jSL

It was the first all metal toy produced after World War II.  You can read more about that--and the company itself--here:  http://bit.ly/2fYJLC7
