MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

We've shown you this 1958 Sears Christmas Wishbook catalog page before but only recently discovered that one of the kits available made a FIVE FOOT tree! Not sure that this would have been effective as anything more than a tabeltop size--but let's face it--at five feet it would have made quite the impression. It seems to have been a passing fad because a review of other Sears Wishbooks after 1958 shows that the kits were no longer being offered...Either way, a marvelous time capsule!
Next up a marvelous collection of later made in Japan putz houses--but very minty--with two seldom seen very large and early bottle brush trees complete with spun cotton fruit, courtesy of AngelaG.

It's followed by a wonderful piece of Marx tin featured in a previous auction @ Croton's own SeriousToyz.com--Porky Pig with Spinning Umbrella", 1939, Marx, 8.5", wind-up--it sold for $196. Stay tuned for more magic from SeriousToyz.com

"MASS PRODUCED" PUTZ HOUSES BEING MADE TODAY

Had a special request for a list of "mass produced" putz house makers currently around today. Here are the ones we're aware of. If you know of more, please let us know.

While most do not have the charm or detail of a Karl Fey or a Howard Lamey (littleglitterhouses.com), there are exceptions--and of course Radko was very true to the originals--click on the photo, then the link http://www.familychristmasonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=70

THE BUDGET: CRITICAL THINKING FROM CROTON UNITED'S JOEL GINGOLD, MASSIVE DEBT, QUESTIONABLE PROJECTS, LAP DOGS & MORE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

As many of you know, the 2015-16 budget is on the Monday 4/6 agenda; you can read more about that here: http://bit.ly/1F92wFq

But for now, please take a moment to read an important letter from Croton United's Joel Gingold:

CRITICAL THINKING ON CROTON'S 2015-16 BUDGET

To the Editor,

Last night the Village Board “reviewed” the capital budget for the next fiscal year.  What transpired was disconcerting, to say the least.

The village currently has a bonded debt of about $32 million.  While about $2 million will be retired over the next year, the Board proposes another $10.5 million in new debt, or a 33% increase in just a single year.

Annual debt service has increased by 36% over the past three years to nearly $3.4 million, nearly 20% of the total operating budget, and it will rise sharply again in the 2016/2017 fiscal year when payments on the new debt will begin.  Looking a few years down the road, this Board proposes to borrow $6 million for a new village garage and another $6 million for the renovation of police headquarters, all of it by 2019.

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Here at Everything Croton, we get quite a few emails from former Croton residents living across the country. A reader recently asked if the SPEAKING OF CROTON DVD was still available.  Yes it is! Prepared and edited by Ken Sargeant, it makes a great gift as well. Click on the flyer for more info.
