Now here's a Christmas album you don't come across very often--by Bobby Sherman. Isn't that a name that will date some of us for sure. To those who don't know, Sherman was quite the teen idol in the 60's and 70's. Read more about him here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Sherman

For village residents, the name Edward (Ed) Rondthaler will be forever
synonymous with Croton-on-Hudson. You can read more about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Rondthaler
As many of you know, Rondthaler donated his scrapbooks to The Croton Historical
Society some years ago. Filled with newspaper clippings, some notes and photos, they
are a time capsule of village life...and as promised, Everything Croton
and the trusty elves will be sharing some of these pages with you
throughout 2015. Click on the photos.
You can see more from the scrapbooks here http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2015/02/even-more-from-ed-rondthaler-scrapbooks.html
We love everything about this 1950's RED ARROW train made by Usagiya, Japan--and featured in a previous auction at Croton's own SeriousToyz.com--the box too!
A great piece of tin litho. Stay tuned for upcoming auction info from SeriousToyz.com
It's followed by a fabulous Easter candy box putz repro by Karl Fey. The colors on this are just so right.
And finally a 1953 publicity still for actress Susan Hayward, who died this date in 1975 from brain cancer. A very talented--and beautiful--lady; read more about her here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Hayward

A collection of vintage made in Japan putz houses with mercury glass beaded roofs and embellishments. You see these quite often but seldom without lots of broken beads and missing sections--the mercury glass was just so fragile. To the reader who asked if anyone was reproducing these today--with faux mercury plastic or resin beads instead--we haven't seen them being made--but this would make a great project! Hint...hint....Click on the link to see the vintage originals http://bit.ly/1BgKgHE

Wow, what a winter. Let's re-cap!
EAGLES!
Frankly, we just can't remember a better Eagle Season; it started early in November and really took off in January and February with the best spots being Georges Island and the Verplank waterfront--where they just floated on by. As you can see from the photo, we eagle photographers get a little nuts in our quest for that perfect shot! And let's not forget the eagles that took up residence in the trees adjacent to Ralph & Dave's throughout the month of February. (Updated R&D has closed.)
ICE SKATING @ THE DUCK POND
Despite a prolonged never ending stretch of bitter cold, the
Duck Pond was sadly not prepared by the village for skaters as often as it
should have been--and with less than timely notice to the public the few times it was. This was a problem last year as well.
Kudos however to the Washington Engine Co. (and Recreation Department/DPW) for their efforts--see your all volunteer fire department in sub zero temps at the pond here http://on.fb.me/1F43WVm
You can read more about the 2015 skating season at http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2015/02/photo-duck-pond-skating-22115.html
ROUTE 129, THE ICE WALL
