EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT CROTON'S "DUMMY LIGHT"
We get so many questions from newer residents about that "strange looking light thing" in the Upper Village a.k.a. The Dummy Light. Our friend Marc Cheshire just pointed us here: http://www.crotonfriendsofhistory.org/dummy-forever/
CIRCA 1900: FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT EPHEMERA
It was a banner day at Sunday's Peekskill Flea Market on Bank Street yesterday where we met a new vendor known simply as Big John. A retired local firefighter, his table was a veritable potpourri of everything from 1950's jewelry to boxes of moldy magazines from the turn of the century to the 1920's. He said he will be there every few weeks....It goes without saying that we were in heaven...
In one of those boxes was some vintage fire fighting equipment ephemera, photos, pages from the Harris Equipment Catalog, and more. Most of it was beyond redemption but we were able to salvage a few things and the price was right. And so...for the enjoyment of our all volunteer Croton Fire Department, click on the restored catalog scans below, all circa 1900. And stay tuned for more.
