Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

At the 8/25/14 work session, the Toughman 5 year contract was discussed among other issues. (Thank you to Croton United's candidates Virginia Calcutti and Bob Anderson for attending. Thanks as well to Croton United members Dan Chesnard and Joel Gingold.)

Some highlights only follow below. As always you should listen to the work session audiotape when it is made available on the village website and confirm this for yourself.

--The contract was continually supported by Mayor Wiegman who claimed the event brought in over $10,000 to the village businesses last year. A freedom of information request will be filed for the supporting documentation.

--The contract calls for the village to receive $14,000 annually with an increase of 2.5% each year over the next four years. Village expenses last year were $13,039 according to the documentation/bills that Ms. Calcutti obtained. Mr. Zambrano will try to negotiate for more money. As of last night, however, this was a go.

--The mayor stated that this is "only for 6 hours".

The village has just released the 9/7/14 TOUGHMAN TRAFFIC  IMPACTS. You can see them here http://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/Public_Documents/CrotonHudsonNY_Board/04A7FF0A-000F8513

  1. Thank you Croton United. Since a lot of businesses close due to the disruption or open later, how is this $10,000 to businesses determined? Please get the supporting documentation. Last year it was a ghost town in Croton. Everyone was eating barbecue at the point.

    1. Yes we heard and saw that. Two businesses normally open that day just go ahead and close. We do our food shopping on Sundays normally at Shoprite but get out of Dodge for the day and get it done at the Cortlandt Town Center supermarket instead. These people live in a dreamland. If this is such a great thing, they can hold it in his hometown of Rye. The fact that they don't says a lot about them and a lot about us.

  2. I have read those letters AGAIN from a Croton Resident and a Resident/volunteer. No surprise to me that their words fell on deaf ears...and look at all the trouble Mr. Reikert went through. It seems to me these days that the persons who make very critical decisions for health, safety and well being of the resident are JUST A BUNCH OF KNUCKLEHEADS. We need, and have not had for years, people who make good choices and decisions. I look forward to the local elections in Croton and I sure hope that everyone Who see the LIGHT, spreads the word, opens up eyes and minds and get their friends to stop pushing levers Start the campaign today to elect Croton United.

  3. Hmm. Last year, I don't recall Croton being flooded with a bunch of Toughman participants who were itching to spend money in our town after wearing themselves out in the race. I DO recall sitting in Grouchy Gabe's and talking with a bunch of people who were all trying to figure out how they were going to get around town that day. I DO recall being stressed out about how I was going to get to church in Ossining. And I DO recall sitting in traffic to get in and out of ShopRite.
If the town really wants to make money off of the Toughman, make deals with our local businesses and give out coupons to Toughman participants so that they actually walk into our stores and restaurants and buy something.

    1. Great idea. Why didn't the Village Board think of it? Probably because they have no business savvy!

    2. We tried to get their attention one year to do just this. No interest.

  4. I remember leaving for work in Tarrytown 2 hours early in otder to drive to Mt. Kisco to get there on time. Who benefits? Not us.

  5. Look this isn’t like the Harry Chapin run, confined to a limited area, where all the money raised go to charity. This is a dangerous and disruptive event for huge amounts of people. Our volunteer fireman have said so, our EMS guy has said so and aside froma handful of rabid supporters of the mayor who loves this thing, it is not liked, period end of story. One group who volunteered one year for a donation to their village cause got a lousy fifty bucks for a lot of hours. We were told donations would be made to the memorial for 9-11. Wonder how much that was for all the aggravation we all have to endure.

There are some officials who say it puts the villqge on the map. Really? I can tell you right now that when peopleoutside of Croton learn it is Croton that does this every year to them, they don’t think very highly of us. I’d rather not be on the map for garbage, chicken coops on Gouveia and back room deals, or this event that caters to a small group compared to the tens of thousands across the county it screws with.

  6. I'm very thankful that Croton United went. Until all the facts are known and not just the feelings of our officials towards this event, we should not going into a five year contract. Thanks Ginny and Bob Anderson. Mary

  7. At last count in my math book, 5:00AM until 1:30pm is 8 hours, not six. Get the facts straight if your going to be dismissive of dissent, Mr. Mayor.
