UPDATED--RETIRED IN 2020

Welcome to Everything Croton--a collection of all things Croton, our history, our homes, our issues, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE EXAMINER NEWS: ANTON RESTAURANT AND BAR - Briarcliff residents Belarmino and Virginia Anton opened Anton Restaurant and Bar in Croton in 2010 and not long after it opened its doors, the new business faced a crisis.

Belarmino Anton recalled last week that shortly after his eatery was getting established it went out of business temporarily as the result of a fire following an explosion in one of the outdoor transformers.  “It took us two years to rebuild,” he said.

A TRIBUTE TO MILADA JEZEK A.K.A. "MILLIE"

We received the sad news that Linda's aunt--Milada "Millie" Jezek--who has been entertaining us for years with her annual and very beautiful vintage and antique Christmas decorating, passed away in November at the age of 100.

Click on the image to see her wedding day photo interspersed with made in Japan putz houses and other vintage Christmas from a past holiday season.

Millie's displays and the artful, loving way she put it all together every year, will be missed. Linda tells us that the family decorated Millie's room so that she passed away surrounded by her treasures.

GREETINGS FROM MAYOR GREG SCHMIDT & CROTON UNITED!

The following letter appears in this week's edition of the Gazette.

To my fellow citizens of Croton,

On behalf of myself, my family, and the Croton Village Board of Trustees, I’d like to extend our very best wishes to every resident of our village for a joyous holiday season and for health, happiness, and success in the New Year.

Croton is a unique place with a unique and varied history and we are all very fortunate to reside in such a community. We are, by nature, a contentious lot. It is often said that if you ask any Crotonite for his or her opinion on any subject, you should be prepared to spend the next hour hearing all about it.

But we are also an extremely compassionate community. Literally hundreds of our citizens give willingly of their time to assist their neighbors through organizations such as the Croton Caring Committee, the Croton-Cortland Food Pantry, the Croton Coalition, and Holy Name’s God Squad. Others participate in similar organizations or individually volunteer at nearby hospitals and hospices, work with our youth in the scouts or coach in our numerous sports leagues or join in the variety of other activities taking place in the village.
