FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ASKED, THE CROTON YACHT CLUB IS RECOVERING

UPDATED: http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-croton-yacht-club-we-stand-for.html

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, Everything Croton.

The Croton Yacht Club: a most remarkable place, and most remarkable people. We'll let the post Sandy photos below do the talking. As to the extent of the damage, we'll let you know you know as soon as we have more info. One can only hope this puts an end to the "riverside restaurant" FANTASY. P.S. Up and down the river, riverside restaurants have either been completely destroyed or heavily damaged. More on that to follow. Click on the photos. A 10/29/12 UPDATE ON THE CROTON YACHT CLUB & HURRICANE SANDY

UPDATED PHOTOS HERE http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2012/10/for-those-who-have-asked-croton-yacht.html

So many residents have written to ask about the Croton Yacht Club. Below are two photos showing the impact of the initial tidal surge; both are from the CYC, all rights reserved. P1010255 was taken yesterday afternoon and P1010261 was taken this morning 11AM at high tide. It is anticipated that the tide will be higher than what was experienced with Irene and with the wind conditions, it’s anyone’s guess as to what damage will be seen come the next high tide tonight at 11PM or tomorrow after the rain influence. The Croton Yacht Club did all they--or anyone--could do in preparation so the rest is in nature's hands.

On another note: Restaurant seating will begin at low tide , parking is limited and you are advised to bring high boots as a precaution.

PAPA TED HEALTH UPDATE

UPDATED: TED HAS MOVED ON....

For those who have been asking about Papa Ted, an update from Paul Race:

"My understanding is that Ted is in Hospice again, for what is, by all evidence, his last stay. Ted and his family need your prayers now more than ever. The family is not planning to have a big public viewing and funeral...They ARE thinking about having some sort of "Celebration of Ted's Life" later on." (Details will be posted.)

Here's a shot of "Papa" Ted as we'd like to remember him: young, strong, handsome, and full of Christmas light and life. We leave you with our first introduction to Ted: his short but wonderful piece 'THE MAGIC WINDOW' - click on the archive link http://cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/

And the archive is here http://cardboardchristmas.com/papateds/index.htm

UPDATED: A tribute to Ted has been posted http://everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-tribute-to-ted-althoff.html

HAVURAH ON HUDSON & THE CROTON ARBORETUM

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, Everything Croton.

A group of 11 and 12 year old kids recently spent a morning volunteering at the Croton Arboretum. Organized by Lori Cohen of Havurah on Hudson, the group spread much-needed fresh mulch on the trails and learned about the Arboretum on a hike with Arboretum President Karen Jescavage-Bernard. The mission of Havurah on Hudson is to encourage and facilitate Jewish learning and Jewish identity of children of Havurah family members. Kudos to the volunteers for all their hard work.

CITY MANAGER WON’T QUIT

At EverythingCroton, we have refrained from calling attention to this event until and if it was covered in our local papers as opposed to the Times Herald Record. Now that the Journal News has covered it, we are providing the link below. However, because this issue may engender potentially over-the-top commentary we'd rather not have to moderate, this thread will be CLOSED to all comments.

JOURNAL NEWS 10/24/12—Link good for about two weeks-CITY MANAGER WON’T QUIT OVER PROSTITUTE IN CAR FLAP - Richard Herbek, a Briarcliff Manor resident and the former village manager of Croton-on-Hudson, is facing criticism as the city manager of Newburgh after it was disclosed a police patrol found him with a prostitute in his car last week. Herbek, who denied any wrongdoing, offered to resign his post on Sunday before he rescinded the resignation. http://www.lohud.com/article/20121023/NEWS/310230089/Briarcliff-man-found-prostitute-car-holds-onto-Newburgh-city-job
