GENE WILDER HAS DIED

(CNN)Gene Wilder, who brought a wild-eyed desperation to a series of memorable and iconic comedy roles in the 1970s and 1980s, has died, his lawyer, Eric Weissmann, said.

He was 83. Wilder is best known for his collaborations with director Mel Brooks, starring as the stressed-out Leo Bloom in Brooks' breakout 1967 film "The Producers," and later in the monster movie spoof "Young Frankenstein." He also portrayed a boozing gunslinger in "Blazing Saddles." READ MORE HERE http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/29/entertainment/gene-wilder-dead/index.html

A FEW PHOTOS FROM ASBURY'S 2016 HISTORIC SUNDAY

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

A FEW PHOTOS FROM ASBURY'S 2016 HISTORIC SUNDAY. READ AND SEE MORE HERE:

This past Sunday we celebrated Historic Sunday as we do each year in August. This year Mrs. Delezine [in the person of Dorene Picker] , mistress of the Ferry House [ferry crossed the Croton River near where Rt 9A/Rt 9 bridge is now] , came to preach and tell us about the 1805 Croton Camp Meeting, including highlighting Ben Franklin's reflections on prayer. She also brought a lantern and warmer to show during children's sermon. After church several vendors hawked their wares as was often done during the Camp meetings. https://www.facebook.com/AsburyCrotonUMC/posts/1071860902868174

RIP JOHN BARIRDE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

From the Croton-on-Hudson FD FB PAGE: Today, we reluctantly and sadly say farewell to a lifelong member and friend, Past Captain John C. Barirde of Harmon Engine Company No. 3.

"Johnny B." has been a member of the CFD for over 35 years, where he has held many positions and provided guidance and mentoring to several of our rank and file. In addition to his roles here with the CFD, he also recently retired with the Croton Police Department, where he served as a Sergeant. In addition to his service to us here in Croton, he also spent many years as a Fire Investigator with the Westchester County Cause & Origin Team.

He can be remembered for so many things - but we all know the one thing he was famous for - his mustache. No matter how he wore it, how bushy it was or how crazy the waxed curls would get - you always knew that behind it all was one of the most humble and kindest guys you'd ever meet.

We will miss you dearly, friend, and please take comfort in knowing that we will never forget you and will continue to look after your family. https://www.facebook.com/crotonfire

ROB, MONICA, BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY & A 2 SALE SATURDAY

8/13/16 - ...Every summer, there are a number of free concerts in parks in our area and we normally find at least four that we want to attend. This year, the pickings were slim with cover bands being the primary offerings and they don't interest us. The one band that we marked on our calendar was Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (CLICK on the photo) which was one of the bigger bands during the late 1990's swing revival.  Read and see more here: http://bit.ly/2bsd2Cr

NEW FROM OUR FRIENDS AT EFSP ... A DAZZLING DOZEN FROM GDI

In the Dutch village of Noord-Scharwoude is a small but dynamic Filmmuseum, the Geoffrey Donaldson Institute (GDI). Director is our friend Egbert Barten who always shares his new postcard acquisitions with EFSP. His latest acquisition is a collection of postcards of female stars from the early 1960s. In colour or in black and white, from European and Hollywood stars, published in the Netherlands and in Germany - and one in Italy.

A SUPERFICIAL AND INACCURATE ATTACK, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ AN IMPORTANT LETTER FROM CROTON UNITED

The following letter was published in this week’s issue of the Gazette.

To the Editor:

In last week’s paper, a letter from Dianne Dowling, the Secretary of the Croton Dems extolled the virtues of encouraging diversity in organizations as a means of bringing about innovation, creativity and compromise. On this point, I couldn’t agree more.

Ms. Dowling then goes on to warn village residents that the “all-male board” that Croton United is “offering” to the voters this year will result in a five member board whose members would “all think the same way.”  Read more here http://bit.ly/2aSKyBn
