MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

Texaco Gasoline ads were some of the best for their time, always featuring a pack of Dalmatian puppies. This one is from 1951 and our vintage magazine collection.

They're followed by a great 1946 Christmas ad for RC Cola featuring Barbara Stanwyck. Now often do you see that!

And finally, one of our favorite log cabin putz houses from Karl Fey.

Click on the photos and enjoy.

AUGUST 30, 2015 UPDATE ON THE OSPREY NEST IN THE CROTON PARKING LOT

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

AN UPDATE ON THE OSPREY NEST IN THE CROTON PARKING LOT; CHICKS AND PARENTS NO LONGER AT THE NEST...Your editor and the elves reported that there had been next to no activity at the cell tower nest site for at least three weeks now--although four to five ospreys were often seen in the trees on the Ossining side of the estuary. THE TWO CONFIRMED CHICKS that were in the nest had already gotten quite large back in early July--you can see a photo of both taken by Bonnie Tallutto at the FEED THE BIRDS FB page here http://on.fb.me/1JFhxAX

This morning, a contractor was there at the top of the cell tower, presumably removing the remains of the empty nest and checking things out--looks like there were three workers up there, 2 in the bucket, one outside. See you next year Ospreys!  Click on the photos below, all rights reserved.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR LEONARD "LEN" GOBER

A memorial service will be held at George's Island on September 27th at Pavillion #2 from 3-6 pm.

PART TWO: AN EATON'S CHRISTMAS 1920-1921

Your editor is pleased to bring you selected toy and candy scans--sliced and diced so you can appreciate all the details--from the Winter Eaton's Catalog of 1920-21--with more on the way in the coming months.

For those who don't know, Eaton's a.k.a. T. Eaton Co. Limited was once Canada's largest department store retailer. It was started in 1869 by Timothy Eaton, a Presbyterian Ulster Scot immigrant from what is known now as Northern Ireland.  Eaton's grew to become a retail and social institution in Canada, with stores across the country, buying offices around the globe, and a catalog that was found in the homes of most Canadians. Sadly, the company went bankrupt in 1999. You can read more about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eaton's - Click on the scans below and enjoy.  SEE PART ONE HERE http://www.everythingcroton.blogspot.com/2015/08/an-eatons-christmas-1920-21.html

HEY TRAIN LOVERS! Check this out--TRAIN TIME: 1995 Henderson Outdoor Garden Railway - From the forgotten fotos files are some pics from an outdoor railway here in Henderson, Nevada. HOWEVER this layout is no longer there. About a year or so after these were taken back in 1995 the owner of the house had an extensive garage fire and my understanding was that he sold the house and moved. In any case, we haven't been back there to see whether or not the layout still exists. READ MORE HERE  http://www.toyconnect.blogspot.com/2015/08/train-time-1995-henderson-outdoor.html

TOUGHMAN, 2011 AND 2010 MAYORAL PROCLAMATIONS

Recently it's been asserted that the county and state DOT should be "blamed" for the annual Toughman competition in Croton, NOT village officials--and that those volunteers, residents from the village and the area, church-goers and others who have expressed concerns, asked questions, offered solutions, etc.--are simply too stupid to understand.

Click on the photo to read a proclamation from Mayor Wiegman in 2011 regarding this event and form your own conclusions. It comes from the village website. A 2010 proclamation is also here http://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/public_documents/CrotonHudsonNY_WebDocs/Mayor/Toughman-Proclamation_2010_seal.pdf

IMPORTED FROM THE USA: JAYNE MANSFIELD - NEW @ EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS

From our friends at European Film Star Postcards: IMPORTED FROM THE USA, JAYNE MANSFIELD (click on the photo).

Some Hollywood stars were much more popular in Europe than at home. A fabulous example is sweet Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967), one of Hollywood's original platinum blonde bombshells. Although most of her American films did not do much at the European box offices, Jayne herself was a sensation whenever she came to Europe to promote her films. During the 1960s when Hollywood had lost its interest in her, Jayne continued to appear cheerfully in several European films.
