HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 8/11/14 CROTON BD. OF TRUSTEES MEETING

SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 8/11/14 BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING REGARDING GOUVEIA, THE CROTON POINT AVENUE PROJECT AND THE HOUSING TO BE BUILT ON THE FORMER NAPPY PROPERTY

Please note that these highlights are not in any particular order. To be continued. For now, however:

--The board moved the agenda items around; the first 40 plus minutes of the meeting was dedicated to a review of the multi-million dollar Croton Point Avenue Project's consistency with the village's waterfront policy.  It was item #11 on the agenda and suddenly became item #1.

As a result, residents were kept waiting and some had to leave before speaking. It's a familiar tactic from the days of the waste transfer station and one way to control citizen input. Robert Wintermeier took the board to task; the board was not moved.

--Kevin McGlone, running on the Indie line for trustee, chastised the mayor etal on the issue of the Gouveia property.

--Dan Chesnard also spoke about Gouveia. He pointed out Maria Slippen's comments about how if the village did not take the property, a religious institution would and it would come off the tax rolls. He took her to task, she apologized and then said she "misspoke".

--The board approved $15,000 for a consultant to study the village's "accessory apartments" law. As you know the HUD monitor also had a problem with the accessory apartments law.

-- A short presentation was made about the housing planned for the former Nappy property in Harmon; it is still unknown at this time what kind of housing it will be--affordable, market rate or some combination. An email was sent to the board this morning asking; if a response is received, it will be posted.

If not, yet another freedom of information request will be submitted.

  1. And so the intentional change in the Agenda, to inconvenience the public, in order to reduce a public reaming....not the first time and I'm so not surprised!!! Cowards.

  2. I turned it off. I knew exactly what they're doing. I'll watch it online another day.

    1. It's too soon (waiting a day or two) but I don't expect one. In all probability, it's a foil issue. The monitor's report comes out this week so perhaps there will be an answer there.
