REMEMBERING JAMES DEAN

Who died this date in 1955...James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955) was an American actor.

He is a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film, Rebel Without a Cause (1955), in which he starred as troubled teenager Jim Stark. The other two roles that defined his stardom were loner Cal Trask in East of Eden (1955) and surly ranch hand Jett Rink in Giant (1956)--click on the photo. Dean's enduring fame and popularity rest on his performances in only these three films. READ MORE HERE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Dean

MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

It was a banner Sunday at the Peekskill Flea Market--and it was so good to see the vendors return (there were very few on the day of the recent Toughman race). We found scads of old photos and cabinet cards and have posted two here with more to come in the weeks ahead. Unknown beauties...perhaps actresses....most likely from around World War One.

They're followed by an unusual 1950's toy, the Para-Jet, featured in a recent auction at Croton's own SeriousToyz.com; made by Admiral Toys, 9", hard plastic jet gun w/ silk parachute; ejects pilot just like a real jet plane...pull trigger, canopy opens & pilot shoots up and parachutes gracefully down.
Click on the photos and enjoy.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY WINS COURT APPEAL IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING CASE

With thanks to Mr. Astorino.....Westchester County Wins Court Appeal In Affordable Housing Case - Highlights - "The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit said in a ruling issued Friday that “there has been no finding, at any point, that Westchester actually engaged in housing discrimination.” - This is a big victory for Westchester County,” Astorino said. “This vindicates our fight to protect home rule and local zoning. The issue with HUD and the monitor has never been about race or access to housing. - "There is no place for discrimination in Westchester or any place else. But by the same token, there needs to be checks on the federal government’s ability to use its power and money to reshape our communities.” READ MORE HERE - http://whiteplains.dailyvoice.com/news/westchester-county-wins-court-appeal-in-affordable-housing-case/591649/

A LETTER FROM CROTON UNITED'S BOB ANDERSON: THE EXPLOSION OF DEBT UNDER THE WIEGMAN DEMS

Please take a moment to read an important letter from Bob Anderson, Croton United candidate for Trustee.

Please note the following facts:

THE EXPLOSION OF DEBT UNDER THE WIEGMAN DEMS

Mr. Anderson's letter was published in the 9/24/15 edition of THE GAZETTE.

To the Editor, I was surprised that in his letter last week, Croton Dems Chair Paul Rolnick did not offer an apology to Croton taxpayers for writing one of three separate letters to this paper falsely claiming that Croton’s bond rating had improved under the Wiegman administration (the other two were from candidate Andy Levitt and Trustee Brian Pugh). My statement that the Wiegman Dems misled the voters regarding the village’s bond rating is not an accusation; it’s a fact.

Rolnick is right that there are “challenges ahead,” but the most urgent and important challenge will be dealing with the financial consequences of his party’s explosion in borrowing. Croton United’s plan to end the profligate borrowing of the Wiegman Dems and to bring sustainable fiscal management back to the village is a true positive vision for the future of Croton.
