ReplyDeleteLast year, Shelia and I were taking friends to see a Christmas play in the Victoria theater in downtown Dayton. I dropped them off so they could pick up their tickets while I parked the van. And about six blocks from the theater, I saw a fully dressed Mrs. and Mr. Santa hoofing it in the direction I had just come from. Turned out that they were doing a shift at the Schuster Center's Christmas shop (across the street from the Victoria). Even though they were not exactly young (the white beard was real), the festival people wouldn't let them park in any of the empty reserved parking spaces, so they had a 4-6- block walk every time they came in. I enjoyed giving them a ride in, which meant of course, that I had to go back out to park. By the time I reached the theater, my party was wondering what had happened to me, and I said, "I just gave Santa and Mrs. Claus a ride." "Right," they said. But it makes a great story.
