Handsome, musclebound Steve Reeves (1926-2000) was an American bodybuilder and actor, who was a huge success in Hercules (1958) and other Peplum films, the Italian sword-and-sandal epics. At the peak of his career, around 1960, he was reputedly the highest-paid actor in Europe.

This was a real roller coaster ride down Memory Lane. My brothers and I would watch these films on the weekends on I think, Channel 9 WOR TV. The reception was never good and the dubbing was pretty awful, but we loved them anyway. It was inevitable that we would get into a make believe sword fight, and something was always spilled.
