Got many a corsage there and was sorry to see them close.
ReplyDeleteAmong the many wonderful memories of Swanson's--my husband Joel once bought a bunch of daffodils for his Pleasantville office manager. Price for daffs in Pleasantville florist: $2 each! Price for gorgeous, big home-grown daffs at Swansons: 50 cents apiece!
ReplyDeleteWe were so lucky to have Swanson's in Croton.
We got beautiful impatiens and browallia for our shade garden every year--the best, and cheapest, in the area.
One disturbing memory--the elder Swanson showed me a stack of unpaid invoices. Can't understand how people could stiff a florist, especially the iconic Swansons.--Jeanette Gingold
The best thing was watching Mr. Swanson cut each stem from his raised flower beds. Those flowers were FRESHLY CUT, and they lasted much longer than any others. I loved walking through the greenhouses ... such tranquility.
