A great way to start off the New Year--the annual Cortlandt Regional Music Association's free concert at Holy Name of Mary--with Richard Simons conducting the Cortlandt Chamber Orchestra--and now a village tradition. They've been doing it since 1993, and the setting is always beautiful.
Today's program included Strauss--and American composers too. Not to mention Hallie Flanagan Wolfe's "felis silvestris catus". (Smile.) And the Don Simons Family Funtime Band warmed up the crowd with old favorites.

For those who don't know, Vienna has a concert on New Year's Day with Strauss so Croton has been in good company every year since 1993. I really don't know what we would do without our places of worship. From assisting those in need to hosting events like today, they are the lifeblood of this village and keep it on track.
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot. Thank you to the orchestra and everyone who helped make it such a great event.
ReplyDeletePlease check these guys out the next time they do a concert, and they do them at different times not just the holidays. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, you get to see old friends again, and my family and I use it as an excuse for dinner out.
ReplyDeleteThe next event is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th at 7:30PM. It will include guests Nicholas Szucs (Violinist), Amy Selig (Viola) and Deborah Horne (Soprano). Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
