THE VINTAGE KNITTER 2014, #1 - SEAMAN'S HELMET, WORLD WAR I

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, THE VINTAGE KNITTER (AND CROCHET TOO) 2014...#1 - Our vintage knitting and crochet series has been so popular, we were asked to bring it back in 2014--and we have--see the knitted Seaman's "helmet", WWI. During the 'GREAT WAR', women across the country were asked to knit everything from socks to scarves to gloves "for the boys". Click on the photo.

  1. My great grandmother was part of a knitting circle that made socks for the troops during World War One. It was said that she could turn them out so fast that no one could keep up with her.
