Welcome
to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our
homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.
Once upon a time...drive-ins all over the country were the best places in the world to spend a Friday or Saturday night...and Croton had the Starlight Drive-In. Click on Tthe images below to see what was playing in 1962. See more Starlight Drive-in at the links below--courtesy as always, of the outstanding archives maintained the volunteers of THE CROTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY.

Those were the days. There's only a handful of drive-ins left in the country now.
ReplyDeleteGreat for young couples with kids. Just back into the parking spots with a station wagon, hook up the speaker, drop the tailgate so the kids can watch the movie in their sleeping bags, set up stools for adults outside the car and wait for an intermission to get your soda, ice cream or popcorn. Oh, and don't forget the restrooms. Note: It was not surprising to find kids watching from on top of the car roof on a warm day.
ReplyDeleteNote to Don...passed one on route 303 just south of the Palisades Mall before you get to Tappan.
It was a very different Croton than today.
