LAST WWII WARSHIP HEADS UP HUDSON 6/30; CROTON RESIDENTS SHOULDN'T MISS IT

Headed our way on Monday: JOURNAL NEWS - NEW YORK CITY – The last World War II destroyer escort afloat in the U.S. will make its way up the Hudson River on Monday. The USS Slater will begin her return voyage to Albany...the Slater is expected to pass through the Lower Hudson Valley from mid- to late morning Monday. A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON THE USS SLATER COURTESY OF WIKIPEDIA: USS Slater (DE-766) is a Cannon-class destroyer escort that served in the United States Navy and later in the Hellenic (Greek) Navy. The ship was named for Frank O. Slater of Alabama, a sailor killed on the USS San Francisco (CA-38) during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for gallantry in action.
