To the editor,
A recent poll of Democrats put Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) as a top leader of the Democrat party. With such strong favorability ratings, it’s important to size up just how she is handling the 14th district she represents, which includes parts of Queens and the Bronx.
Recently it has come to light that she ignored residents’ pleas to shut down brothels (some right near schools) and gang activity along Roosevelt Avenue. Citizens were faced with beatings, stabbings, drug dealing, counterfeiting of currency and passports, firearms trading, extortion of local businesses and human trafficking related to the brothels. The Roosevelt Avenue problems were so rampant and well-known that the area earned the nicknames “The Third World Flea Market” and “Red Light District.”
Residents attempted, with no luck, to get AOC’s help. She chose to take no action, because to have done so would have gone against her self-prescribed political obligations to supporting illegal immigration, turning a blind eye to human-trafficking and letting criminals go.
Instead, in a multi-agency effort, New York’s FBI Headquarters combined with New York law enforcement had to respond, and raided 15 of the approximately 30 brothels there, with several shut down since the raid.
Despite residents being extremely grateful for the cleanup efforts, organizations like Make The Road New York advocate for maintaining the bad conditions and legalizing prostitution. A disturbing stance that would only proliferate the moral depravity, human trafficking and abuse that goes on in that area.
If AOC is viewed as the “leader of the Democrat Party,” then her district in Queens can serve as a showroom of what she is capable of letting happen. Ultimately, and thankfully, AOC’s politics and negligence will never translate nationally: She will never be president, despite what fanciful leftists are forecasting, and Democrats who keep looking to her lead should get very used to losing elections.
Sincerely,
Jessica Dieckman
